Entire Damnation team laid off

Blue Omega programmer Geoff Rowland has confirmed on his Twitter account that the Damnation team is no more.
“The entire Blue Omega team was laid off today (well, starting Friday),” he said.
Shacknews has dug up some legal docs surrounding Damnation’s development, none of it pretty.
There’s plenty there to pick over, should you be the vulture type.

Damnation video details storyline, villains, super soldiers

The video posted after the break shows loads of footage from Damnation, along with lead game designer Jacob Minkoff chatting about the villains you will be up against in the game.
Looks and sounds interesting, what with all the steam powered machines, guns and what look like super soldiers.
Game’s out for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on May 22 and 26 in the UK and US respectively.

Damnation shots have guns, acrobatics

Blue Omega has released a few new shots of upcoming steampunk-inspired shooter, Damnation.

Codemasters launches “drive” for Russia
Codemasters is to translate all its major upcoming games into Russian as part of a “global drive,” the firm announced today.
Rise of the Argonauts, Damnation and Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising are all getting the Cyrillic treatment.
“Codemasters has targeted Russia as a front-line territory, key to our overall EMEA strategy” said Codemasters’ Axel Herr, probably while thumping a table.
“Localisation and tailoring of content is key to our emerging market strategy and Codemasters is keen to continue leading the charge in these fast-evolving markets.”

Damnation moves to 2009
Never saw this coming. Codemasters has told Eurogamer that Blue Omega’s Damnation has moved out of 2008 into next year.
“Damnation is being rescheduled for an early 2009 release,” said a rep.
“The game will be much stronger and better as a result, and will also give people time to get all the pre-holiday releases out the way – ready for the fresh (and vertical) gaming experience that Damnation offers.”
The game was originally pinned as a Christmas release and joins Codemasters fellow Rise of the Argonauts in its slip this week.

Damnation gets five new videos
On IGN. There’s plenty of the “verticalised” steam punk shooter to keep you happy there. Looks dandy. Listen to Fields of the Nephilim while you’re watching them. Out next year.

New Damnation trailer shows “verticality”
On Shacknews. The Blue Omega steampunk action title is about the “shooter gone vertical,” apparently, and it’s looking not half bad.
There are new screens over there as well. Game’s out this “winter” for PC, 360 and PS3.

Damnation website and trailer up
Codemaster’s mysterious looking “acrobatic shooter,” Damnation, now has a trailer and website.
The trailer, available to watch or download, shows some third-person shooting and acrobatics while hinting at the storyline, which has something to do with a 40-year conflict being waged across America.
The game will be released on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC this winter.

A first look at Damnation posted
On Gamespot. This is the first proper nose at the Codemasters steampunk action game, as far as we’re aware. There are some new screens there, too. From the piece:
Visually, Damnation is looking nice. There’s a sort of Wild West steampunk look to the characters and weapons, as well as a great sense of scale given to you as you gaze over the chasm at the beginning of the level, with the Rocky Mountains towering in the distance. The voice acting seems a little stiff at this point, but that may or may not be a product of its early stage of development. Damnation is scheduled for release later this year on the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. You can expect to see more coverage as information becomes available.
Go see.

Few new bits of Damnation art
RPS got hold of a couple of new bits of art for Codemasters’ upcoming open-level action thingy, Damnation, thanks to the fact the kids over there slagged off the announcement press release. We might try doing that. If we didn’t already. Can we have some exclusive art now, please? Your press releases are rubbish, Codemasters. We’re waiting nicely, OK?
We had a chat with Blur Omega’s Jacob Minkoff about Damnation recently, and it’s all sounding very promising. Have a look.

Damnation fully playable in co-op, says Blue Omega
Blue Omega-developed Damnation – the “shooter gone vertical” to be published by Codemasters this winter – will feature buddy-buddy action from beginning to end.
“The single-player campaign is fully playable in two-player co-op,” chief designer Jacob Minkoff told videogaming247, adding, “After just one multiplayer match, trust me – you’ll see what makes it different, and I think you’ll love it. I know we do.”
The steampunk action title – described by Minkoff as a “hardcore shooter” – adds co-op to what sounds like sprawling cityscapes, over which up and down matters just as much as across. Sounds a bit like Crackdown fused with Assassin’s Creed. With loads of vehicles.
“You’ll start out a level standing on the top of a tall cliff and looking far into the distance where you’ll see a sprawling cityscape, dominated by a huge tower that is miles away,” explained Minkoff. “Your goal is to get to the top of that tower and defeat the boss enemy atop it but, to get there, you’re going to have to make your way through the city, climbing across rooftops, ducking inside buildings, descending into sewers, etc – until you can finally climb your way up to the top of that tower.
“Then, you’ll be able to look back at the city and see all the places you’ve been to and fought in. Rather than making a hallway shooter that consists of tiny alleys, warehouses, and office buildings, we’ve made an epic, expansive, varied would for the player to explore.”
Colour us interested. Read all of Jacob’s answers to our questions after the link. Damnation releases for PC, PS3 and 360 in the fourth quarter.

First Damnation shots hit web
Here. Codemasters’ third-person action game came to light in a French magazine earlier this week. All looks a bit Fields of the Nephilim to us. No release date – or anything else for that matter – on this as yet.
Update: Press release after the link. It’s out for PS3 and 360 in late 2008.

Damnation revealed, new Recoil: Retrograde stuff
A brand new game has surfaced in a French mag here, being a Codemasters title called Damnation, and action outing developed by Blue Omega and published by Codemasters.
Also discussed in the issue if Recoil: Retrograde, a third-person action adventure from Morten Iversen, the writer of the Hitman series. Apparently this was a PC exclusive, but is now planned for PS3. It’s a long way off: don’t expect to see it until 2010 at the earliest.
