Blizzard to offer Diablo III refunds in Korea to those below level 40

d35

Blizzard is handing out refunds to players of Diablo III in South Korean over server issues stemming from Error 37. The firm’s refund policy originally allow for returns of a game already used, but South Korean law guarantees refunds of products within seven days; therefore, the firm had to comply. Players under level 40 can apply for a refund starting June 25 and until July 3, and going forward, those who are level 20 and below can obtain a refund within two weeks of purchase date. Those above level 40 are out of luck. Last month, the Korean Fair Trade Commission steeped into Blizzard’s Seoul offices to investigate after numerous claims were filed against the firm. Via WSJ.

Korean Fair Trade Commission raids Blizzard’s Seoul office over Diablo III complaints

diablo3logomay31

Blizzard’s Seoul offices were raided by Korean authorities this week due to customer complaints filed with the country’s Fair Trade Commission. Customers complained to the body Blizzard refused to offer refunds to players unhappy with the game, and the FTC is currently investigating whether the firm was “ill-prepared” for the amount of players crushing its game servers. It is also looking into whether Blizzard’s no-return policy violates Korean law on electronic commerce and commercial contracts. A spokeperson for the FTC told The Korean Times it had received enough complaints from Diablo III players to launch the investigation, despite Blizzard adding more servers to help alleviate some of the player crush. If the firm is found to be acting counter to FTC laws, it will be forced to issue refunds to those who request it. Thanks, Shack.

Diablo 3′s Auction House a “good service worth paying for”

denewheader

Blizzard’s Jay Wilson has previously stated Diablo III’s development team implemented the Auction House into the game in order to streamline the trading process, and because players like to trade for real money. However, Blizzard will also make money off any real-world transactions in the game, and the decision to take part of the proceeds was made by the designers themselves – not the business end of the company.

Barbarian defeats Diablo III in 12 hours and 29 minutes

d3barbarianrunrthough

A post over on NeoGAF indicated that someone has already finished Diablo 3. A player with a level 32 Barbarian called Yoshichan has sent the site his final stats, claiming to have bested the title on normal difficulty in 12 hours and 29 minutes. The player also ended up with a nice stack of gold, and some rather nice DPS stats. The game went live today after many, many years of pining by the gaming community, but not without a few hiccups such as character creation issues and time outs. Blizzard took servers and Battle.net offline for a while in order to added more servers for the traffic influx, so hopefully more people are now able to log into Sanctuary and start killing things without issue.

Stern Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia expects Actvision-Blizzard’s Q1 FY12 financial results, which will be reported on May 9, to be in line with street expectations and feels the firm’s Diablo III will be a potential catalyst for the firm’s stock pricing. Speaking in an industry note, Bhatia said with that even with Diablo III “releasing after a gap of 12 years,” it has the “potential to sell more than 4 million units life-time, including 3.5 million units this year.” The analyst noted Diablo II had sold 4 million units by August 2001 within 14 months of its release in June 2010.

Diablo 3 beta nabbed 300,000 concurrent users over the weekend

d3-042412

At lot of you tried out, or tried to try out Diablo 3 over the weekend. There were so many of you, that log-in issues, trying to creating or join games, and chat problems were reported. According to Blizzard’s community manager, the beta saw 300,000 concurrent users; however, the total number of users is unknown at this point but the firm said it was “a lot.” Hopefully, those who played are ready to start all over again come May 15, because according to the firm “nothing from beta carries over to retail… characters will be wiped,” and all achievements earned during the beta were “there just to test out the achievement system.” Buck up little barbarian: there’s only four more weeks to go, counting the rest of this week.
