CVG gets relaunch, colour change, becomes “first stop for 24/7 global gaming news”
Following the reimagining of Edge’s brand earlier today, Future’s relaunched CVG into a blog-style design with a red header. You can take a look for yourself here. Editor Tim Ingham’s said the design is a step in creating “the best gaming news site in the world, built around our core offerings of news, media, comment and community all served up with a healthy dose of cheeky, irreverent humour.”
The site is now apparently updated 24 hours per day, including news from Australia. New features include a widescreen media player and a “Most Popular box”.

Update: Looks as though Cliff was misquoted. Hit this for Future’s apology.

Future’s put out a press release today claiming CVG, OXM and ONM has a combined monthly readership of 2.3 million unique users, but has refused to split out any stats. Or make much sense in general, if we’re being honest.

MCV ed to take on CVG for Future
It’s just been confirmed to VG247 that MCV Online editor Tim Ingham is to head up CVG.
The CVG editor job became vacant recently after long-term word-boss Gavin Ogden decided to move out to New Zealand.
The job’s been advertised internally at Future and has seen many applicants. Looks as though outside was the way to go.
Congrats, Tim. Good show.
Now. Who’s going to get the MCV job?

Future relaunches CVG
Future’s relaunched CVG, showing a streamlined site compared to the old blue design, and hanging a “beta” sign on the logo.
“This is really just the first pass of the new CVG, there’s plenty more to come in the next month and beyond,” said CVG’s tech lead, John Houlihan.
“In fact in many ways the real work begins after launch day, as we continue to add in all the new features and further additions which we couldn’t quite squeeze in for today’s Press of the Big Red Button.”

CVG begins Ninja Gaiden II week with promise of exclusive material
Here. To kick off a week’s worth of Ninja Gaiden II-related content, CVG’s posted a feature on the history of Ryu Hayabusa and a promise that those of you that look back at 5pm will get “first details and screens on a brand new level” from the game.
Taste:
For the uninitiated Ninja Gaiden and dragon ninja Ryu Hayabusa first appeared in the arcade in 1988 before taking its 2D action-platform gameplay to NES, SNES and then Sega’s Master System. But it’d be 16 years on from its debut that the series would make the giant leap to 3D. In 2004 Team Ninja unleashed Ninja Gaiden onto the unsuspecting Xbox fanbase. The result proceeded to garner rapturous applause that echoed around the globe.
Ninja Gaiden II’s looking pretty damn spanky, so be sure to keep an eye out for the new shots.
The game releases in June.

Gamespot claims 3.5 million users per month in the UK
It’s Euro web-war, kids. Gamespot UK today claimed it has 3.5 million unique users (UUs) in the UK, quoting ABCe figures from December.
“The gaming industry has seen explosive growth over the last 12 months, with new game launches such as Halo 3 far outstripping the majority of film openings in terms of first-day sales,” said GameSpot UK site manager Laura Jenner. “The UK gaming community is highly passionate and our experienced editorial team is dedicated to delivering the kind of targeted, in-depth and knowledgeable content that this community has come to expect. This audit confirms GameSpot UK’s position as the interactive gaming community of choice within the UK, and we look forward to building on this success further in 2008.”
The news comes on the back of recent figures from Eurogamer Network (1.8 million UUs across Eurogamer.net, Eurogamer.de and Eurogamer.fr) and Computec (1.39 million UUs across its German network, mainly on PCGames.de and Buffed.de). CVG’s last major figures-release was in last May, which claimed 1.56 million UUs across the CVG Network.

Eurogamer hits 1.8 million users per month, hires MMO editor
Eurogamer Network’s readership reached 1,835,202 unique users in November, according to a new ABCe audit. For the same month, the property turned over 14,763,018 page impressions. The figures include Eurogamer.net, Eurogamer.de and Eurogamer.fr. The unique user figure has risen by over 500,000 users, up from 1,317,522 for the same period last year.
The numbers put Eurogamer well ahead of last figures released by Future-published rival CVG, which last year claimed 1,560,247 unique users and 11,472,341 page impressions for May, again, from an ABCe audit. The figure, however, was for “The CVG Network”, which includes over ten sites.
“We’re very pleased to have added over half a million monthly unique users this year,” said EG MD, Rupert Loman. “It is proof that our European strategy is starting to pay off and underlines the effort our entire team has put in to the site.”
In addition, Loman confirmed the addition of respected UK journalist Oli Welsh to the team as MMO editor, a newly formed position.

GamesRadar.com relaunches with “regimented, ordered design”
Future’s relaunched GamesRadar.com, bringing in what editor Steve Pierce has called a “more regimented and ordered design”.
“We’ve gone for a much more regimented and ordered design which allows our writers, video editors and artists to get much more content on the pages,” he said. “Finally we’ve got a great ‘shop window’ for the innovative, informative, original, challenging and plain weird video game stories the GR editorial team dream up daily.”
Pierce added, “Put simply the site should now be much easier on the eye and much easier to get around.”
GamesRadar is Future’s flagship US site, with CVG covering the publishers online gaming fortunes in the UK.
