Timesplitters fans campaign for 100,000 Likes

20120619timesplitters

Following on from Crytek boss Cevat Yerli’s comments to press and Twitter followers about the uncertainty of demand for a new Timesplitters game, fans have launched a Facebook campaign to gather 100,000 demandees. That Yerli himself asked for a demonstration lends some hope that this effort won’t go the way of Operation Rainfall. The Timesplitters series ran to three core releases, and was the product of Free Radical, now Crytek UK.

Crytek UK working on “original FPS”

monkey

Crytek UK boss Karl Hilton’s told Develop that the studio’s working on a brand new shooter property.

“We are currently concepting up an original IP that we hope will become a defining game series for the UK studio,” he said.

“However, in reality, the opportunity to make any kind of original FPS genre game where we get to focus on the quality of both the multiplayer and single player experience is what drives people at the studio.

“We have a strong history of creativity here, and we want to take that forward with Crytek and the CryENGINE 3.”

No other detail yet. Crytek UK rose from the ashes of Free Radical after it went pop last Christmas.

Crytek UK working on “exciting stuff”, TS4 still a possibility

cryteklogoa

Karl Hilton, head of Crytek UK – that’s Free Radical, or what was Free Rad, to you and me – has said in an interview that they are working on some “exciting” new concepts right now at the studio.

“Going forward, we’ve always made it very clear that we want to build original games and we’re going to do that, and we are concepting some of that up at the moment,” said Hilton.

“It’s early days, but there’s some really exciting stuff that we’re concepting. When we’re ready we’ll talk to publishers, and hopefully publishers will like it, and we’ll own and produce those games in our own studio.”

Although they aren’t quite ruling out the possibility of Timesplitters 4. But he does insist that if TS4 were to happen, it would be down to the demands of the market.

“Like with all businesses, content is dictated by the desires of the market. These days the mass-market shooters tend to be aimed at the hyper-realistic stuff. If developers had free reign with the CryEngine, they would easily be able to produce really bizarre, wacky wonderful stuff.”

Free Radical: Technical issues with PS3 hindered Haze developement

hazea2

Free Radical’s Karl Hilton has told Develop that Haze “had a lot of development issues which meant it wasn’t the game it should have been,” and admitted that the teams problems getting the game to run on PS3.

“A lot of them were technical issues,” he told the site. “The PS3 is a powerful machine but a difficult one to get the best out of. We spent more time trying get the game running properly and less time to design the game properly.”

After going into administration and being brought into the Crytek fold, Free Radical became Crytek UK and with access to CryEngine 3 the team’s PS3 woes are behind them thanks to the engine’s toolset.

“I don’t think we’ve seen the best out of the PS3 at all,” said Hilton, “and I definitely think one of the best things about Crytek and the CryEngine is that we’re now in the best position to get the most out of the hardware.”

Crytek owns rights to all Free Radical properties

timesplittersa2

Crytek now owns all of the rights to Free Radical projects including TimeSplitters, says 1UP.

Free Radical was at work on the shooter franchise when they were bought out, but this doesn’t mean another TimeSplitters game is a given, says managing director Anvi Yerli.

“At this early stage we’re looking into all possibilities, but it’s just too early to say,” he said.

Nor is the company’s internal focus “linked to bringing Crysis to consoles”.

With the merge, the firm has been renamed Crytek UK and plans to rehire some of the 185 staff laid off in December.

Nicely done there.
