Valve has launched a Counter Strike: Global Offensive Pro Tip video series that aims to aid the average player. If you’re a newcomer and have been struggling with the hardcore shooter, this is for you.

According to a recent developer blog the update is set for today and will include a revised matchmaking system for Classic Competitive mode as well as some bug fixes.

Here’s more Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, this time looking at Lake, a new map made specifically for Demolition. There’s lots of open space and flanking opportunities here, and the bomb point’s in the building, meaning windows and snipe-spots. Tricky. Watch as Sam and I fail to exploit any of it and get the shit shot out of us.

Good morning, UK campers. Counter-strike: Global Offensive went live overnight on Steam and hits console networks today. Fire up your platform of choice – be that PC, PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 – and allow Valve’s latest assault on the eSports scene to enter your life. If you played the beta, you should get caught up on what’s been patched for the CS:GO’s final release, and don’t forget that if you somehow run through the launch content on day one, there’s the first mod to check out – it’s about zombies, of course. Counter-strike: Global Offensive launches worldwide on August 21, and its very first mod will release alongside it. On the CS:GO blog, Valve revealed that the PlagueFest team have a zombie mod for the competitive shooter ready to go at launch. The developer has asked other modders to come forward if they’ll also have something to offer the community next week. Counter-strike: Global Offensive will also be available on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Counter-strike: Global offensive represent a new bid from Valve to capture the eSports scene on consoles as well as PCs. That would be good for everyoneinvolved, so Sony is helping to pimp it a little by offering an exclusive, 60-minute demo to PlayStation Plus members. The demo will arrive by auto-download on August 20, and is not otherwise available on the PlayStation Store. A community rep warns you’ll need to have automatic downloads enabled to nab the demo, so get on that. The full game releases on August 21 for $15, on Mac, PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Tonight’s latest episode of GTTV with Geoff Keighley features the host at Valve headquarters speaking with Gabe Newell regarding new updates coming to Steam, Project Greenlight, Big Picture Mode as well as an exclusive trailer from Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Catch a preview of the episode here. It’s also being rumored the episode may discuss with Valve the possibility of it creating a “movie” due to the firm’s recent domain registrations for “gamerlifemovie.com” and “gamerlifethemovie.com.” Today, added a new set of features to Steam which can be previewed. The update focuses on organizing and showing off gamer collected screenshots, videos, and Workshop items.

Sony has announced the return of its PSN PLAY summer initiative. Pre-orders start on July 24, and those who purchase two titles or more will be given a bonus cash voucher for use on PlayStation Network. Gamers who buy games during the pre-order period will receive an exclusive PS3 XMB theme based on each game purchased, and Plus members will receive a 20% discount for a limited time.
