Counter-strike: Global Offensive will launch alongside first mod
Counter-strike: Global Offensive launches worldwide on August 21, and its very first mod will release alongside it. On the CS:GO blog, Valve revealed that the PlagueFest team have a zombie mod for the competitive shooter ready to go at launch. The developer has asked other modders to come forward if they’ll also have something to offer the community next week. Counter-strike: Global Offensive will also be available on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Counter-strike: Global Offensive exclusive PS Plus demo drops next week
Counter-strike: Global offensive represent a new bid from Valve to capture the eSports scene on consoles as well as PCs. That would be good for everyoneinvolved, so Sony is helping to pimp it a little by offering an exclusive, 60-minute demo to PlayStation Plus members. The demo will arrive by auto-download on August 20, and is not otherwise available on the PlayStation Store. A community rep warns you’ll need to have automatic downloads enabled to nab the demo, so get on that. The full game releases on August 21 for $15, on Mac, PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

GTTV heads to Valve headquarters to chat with Newell, talk Steam and CS:GO
Tonight’s latest episode of GTTV with Geoff Keighley features the host at Valve headquarters speaking with Gabe Newell regarding new updates coming to Steam, Project Greenlight, Big Picture Mode as well as an exclusive trailer from Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Catch a preview of the episode here. It’s also being rumored the episode may discuss with Valve the possibility of it creating a “movie” due to the firm’s recent domain registrations for “gamerlifemovie.com” and “gamerlifethemovie.com.” Today, added a new set of features to Steam which can be previewed. The update focuses on organizing and showing off gamer collected screenshots, videos, and Workshop items.

Sony has announced the return of its PSN PLAY summer initiative. Pre-orders start on July 24, and those who purchase two titles or more will be given a bonus cash voucher for use on PlayStation Network. Gamers who buy games during the pre-order period will receive an exclusive PS3 XMB theme based on each game purchased, and Plus members will receive a 20% discount for a limited time.

Counter-strike: Global Offensive files yield Half-life jokes
Kotaku‘s got a small gallery of images reportedly pulled from the Counter-strike: Global Offensive beta, which purportedly reference Half-life, among other Valve games. Before you get too excited, Steam forum users have known about these for a while, and haven’t uncovered an AR puzzle or any concrete teases, so it seems Valve may just be making some in-jokes of the kind which wouldn’t even raise an eyebrow at another company. Still, they’re kind of cool – go look. Global Offensive is expected to launch in the first half of the year, for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive closed beta begins today
RPS has word that, as planned, the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive closed beta has started. Currently active for all current key holders and current Counter-Strike players who were invited, will eventually scale to the point where Valve will allow the more of the unwashed masses (meaning the rest of us) to participate before it releases sometime in early 2012.

Closed beta testing for CS:GO starts November 30
Valve has tweeted that the beta for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will “be active for all current key holders” starting November 30. A follow-up tweet stated it was important for the team to allow current Counter-Strike players into the beta, but there isn’t an “eta on when” just yet. The game is slated for release next year.
