Majesco reports revenue increase of 60% to $20.5 million

Majesco has reported second quarter earnings for the company’s fiscal year with an increase in revenue of 60.8 percent equaling $20.5 million. These figures are for the months of February – April compared to $12.8 million during the same quarter in 2008.
Still, it is reporting a loss of $1.7 million for the quarter with a comparison of $257,000 for the same time period last year.
The loss is being blamed on “strategic marketing campaigns” but CEO Jesse Sutton projects the rest of the year will ge3nerate $80 to $85 million thanks to investing in new titles.
“We believe the benefits of these investments will continue beyond the first half of 2009 and help drive future growth,” he said in a statement.
The revenue increase was attributed to Jillian Michaels’ Fitness Ultimatum 2009 and the Cooking Mama franchise with the later selling 4 million units worldwide and the former selling 600,000 copies.
“We continue to believe that Majesco can deliver sustainable profits, as we have better revenue visibility with an ever stronger game lineup,” said analyst Michael Pachter in a financial mailer.
“We believe investors should remain focused on Majesco’s continuing profitability [as] Q2 revenue was much better than expected.”

Majesco can’t be bothered with recession, makes bank

If the entire gaming industry is a testosterone-packed game of economic dodge ball, Majesco’s the tiny circle of girls that stands in the middle of the field chatting, obviously above the barbaric spectacle surrounding them. Why? Because, in this Harsh Economic Climate, Majesco’s managed to somehow post a 75.8 percent jump in net revenues and a 54 percent income boost.
“Our success was driven by strong demand across our product line, specifically for our Cooking Mama titles and the newly released Jillian Michaels’ Fitness Ultimatum 2009, which has become a hit with approximately 500,000 copies sold to date,” said CEO Jesse Sutton.
“We are well positioned to capitalize on the increasing demand for family friendly mass market games, the fastest growing segment of the industry, which in part is being driven by the success of Nintendo’s platforms.”

Pachter: Majesco has mixed but positive Q4 results – expectations raised
Wedbush Morgan’s Michael Pachter has just issued a note detailing and commenting on Majesco’s financial results for Q4 2008.
“The company feels the results were mixed but generally positive,” says the research note.
“Majesco provided initial FY:09 guidance for revenue ‘in excess’ of $70 million and for positive operating income and now Wedbush Morgan is raising its finacial year 2009 estimates for revenue to $72 million from $70 million, and for EPS to $0.11 from $0.10.”
Pachter said that Wedbush “continues to believe that Majesco can deliver sustainable profits, so long as it is able to grow revenues.”
Last year, Cooking Mama made the company $2.7 million which was more than enough for Majesco feel that a second helping was warranted.

Cooking Mama whips up $2.7m for Majesco
According to this, Majesco has announced a profit of $2.7m for its first quarter.
Sales were up from $14.5 million the year prior, primarily from the release of Cooking Mama 2 for the DS, and profits rose from a $926,000 loss in the same period in fiscal 2007.
Majesco hopes to ship Blokus Portable: Steambot Championship for the PSP, Wild Earth: African Safari for Wii, Pet Pals: Animals Doctor, Eco-Creatures: Save The Forest, Nanostray 2 and Toy Shop for the DS in its second quarter.
Handheld hilarity aside, Majesco’s year-end is looking pretty strong, with Wii-exclusive Rodney Alan Greenblat/Masaya Matsuura collaboration Major Minor’s Majestic March, Cake Mania for the Wii, and Our House for both the Wii and DS releasing this winter.
“Our strategy is working and we are executing on our business plan. We expect to continue to benefit from the improvements we have made in our operations throughout the rest of the year. Our new studio is open and is developing its first title, Our House for DS, which complements the previously announced Wii version and helps build our portfolio of intellectual property,” CEO Jesse Sutton said.

Cooking Mama franchise sales hit 1.6 million in US
Majesco probably can’t believe its luck. The Cooking Mama franchise, now a Wii and DS favourite, has acheived US sales of 1.6 million units with games like the original Cooking Mama for DS (September 2006 launch), Cooking Mama: Cook Off for Wii (April 2007 launch) and Cooking Mama 2: Dinner with Friends (November 2007 launch). That’s a whole world of cooking.
“The success of Cooking Mama has been akin to catching lightning in a bottle,” said Majesco CEO Jesse Sutton. “A unique concept, iconic main character and gameplay execution that fully utilizes the stylus and Wii Remote have proved to be a winning combination. We appreciate the continued support from all of Mama’s fans and look forward to launching the fourth title in the franchise later this year.”
A sequel to Cooking Mama: Cook Off is releasing for Wii later this year. 505 handles Cooking Mama in Europe. No idea if it’s been as popular over here. Maybe someone should ask.
