SEGA and Relic have extended the Company of Heroes 2 beta to June 23. The extension will add multiplayer maps into the rotation as well as double XP this weekend in auto match multiplayer modes, reports Joystiq. All general experience will transfer over to the game when it launches June 25. Players will need to purchase the game within 60 days of launch to keep their experience.

Company of Heroes 2 has a new trailer available below. The title of the video may confuse you, considering it’s called “More than Tanks,” but really that’s what the video shows. Men running around on the ground firing weapons, while tanks blow other tanks and the land around them to smithereens. Honestly though, there’s more than just heavy machinery in the game. You can drop bombs from the sky as well. Company of Heroes 2 is out on PC June 25.

The closed, early access beta phase for Company of Heroes 2 has gone live, SEGA has announced. It includes competitive multiplayer and skirmish gameplay, access to six maps, 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4 competitive gameplay, as well as the ability to play alone or with teammates against the AI. Players also get access to the first 40 levels of progression, and the ability to customize their loadouts using the new Army Customizer. A second beta phase will be made available in the coming weeks, and a wider audience will get a chance to take part. The closed beta is being hosted on Steam and utilizes Steamworks match-making and friend lists. The game is out on PC in June. A couple shots are below.

Relic has released a new Company of Heroes 2 developer diary, in which the team’s Brett Pascal, Greg Wilson, Jasen Torres and Rob Westwood discuss the strategy title’s gameplay. The team also touches up on the new light of sight system, TrueSight, and how the horrors of war on the Eastern Front will immerse the player in battlefields of WWII. The video also provides some in-game clips. In other news, a closed beta test is expected sometime “after the New Year,” and an Alpha stress test will go live next week for a limited number of players. Those anticipating the reveal of Company of Heroes 2 may not have much longer to wait, if a bit of swag sent to Kotaku is any indication. According to the site, THQ sent over a replica of the June 22, 1941 front page of The New York Times along with a card stating that “briefings begin May 7.” So, a May 7 reveal looks to be the day, then. The replica of the paper with the headline “Hitler Begins War on Russia, with Armies on March from Arctic to the Black Sea” can be seen through this online microfilm copy. Yesterday, scans from PC Gamer UK popped up online showing the game was not only in the works, but set for release in 2013 from Relic.
