OnLive closed beta begins
OnLive boss Steve Perlman’s confirmed on his blog that the cloud gaming service has now entered closed beta.
“Beta is an AWESOME milestone for OnLive, capping many years of work. We’re really looking forward to hearing what you think,” said the exec.
Of the beta’s goals, Perlman said: “One of the key challenges that OnLive technology addresses is providing a high-quality, fast-response gaming experience over a wide range of situations: different speeds/locations/types of broadband services, a variety of different PC and Mac configurations, several kinds of input and display devices, etc.
“So, a major focus of OnLive Beta is to test as many of these different situations as we can.”
You can still sign up for the beta, if you haven’t done so already. Bear in mind it’s US-only.

Team Fortress 2 closed beta created for balancing purposes

Valve, in its never-ending quest to support Team Fortress 2 until the End Times, has opened a closed beta for its team-based shooter. Secluded from normal play, this beta uses specially selected clans and competitive players to test new TF2 features before they go live.
“The TF2 Beta is something we’ve just started running,” said Valve’s Robin Walker to Shacknews. “It’s aimed at filling a hole in TF2′s iterative development model.”
“To iterate effectively, we need to be able to measure the impact of our changes,” he said. “Up until now we’ve been successful at measuring that impact on the non-competitive TF2 community, because we have good internal proxies for it–the TF2 team itself, plus other internal and external playtesters.”
“Our proxies for the high end competitive play aren’t as good, and that’s lead to us making some design decisions that have hurt it.”
Walker also emphasized that casual players haven’t lost any stock here; rather, the beta has been created in hopes of balancing tweaks for both casual and competitive players.

Rumour: Home v1.0 to enter closed beta on November 20
Whoops. If this Tawkn post is to be believed, a poster on the Home beta forums has just dropped a ton of information on the next phase of the app’s roll-out, including a November 20 date for the introduction of the v1.0 client – the launch software, basically – to the beta servers.
The post says that new servers will be coming online in the “next week or so” and that two new waves of beta invites are about to bring a “huge” number of people into the test to stress v1.0.
“Open beta will be here when it’s here,” says the post.
See for yourself.
