Investment has reached record levels, as video game mergers and acquisitions have now passed $5 billion for the first time in 2013. This comes largely as a result of Chinese, Japanese, and South Korean cash, particularly recent deals such as Soft Bank and GungHo’s 51% stake in Supercell.

Finnish outfit, Supercell, has announced that its free-to-play iOS apps Hay Day and Clash of Clans are doing very well thank-you-very-much, grossing $500,000 in revenue between them each and every day. That leaves the tablet-focused mobile developer with $350,000 per day after Apple has taken its 30 percent, adding up to in excess of $10m per month.
Both Hay Day and Clash of Clans are primarily intended for iPad, but work just fine on smaller Apple devices too.
