Resident Evil director still working on Castlevania, eying Metal Gear movie, too

According to a post on ShockTillYouDrop, Resident Evil movie director Paul W.S. Anderson is still cracking the whip on the Castlevania movie. Or at least, he’s trying to. Apparently, directing a movie’s a bit of a stretch without a script, or so we’ve heard.
“Producer Jeremy Bolt told us this morning that Paul W.S. Anderson is still circling video game adaptation Castlevania at Rogue Pictures and that they are waiting on a script,” said the site.
Meanwhile, Anderson’s also expressed interest in helping Solid Snake infiltrate the big screen. If “directing” in this case means “letting David Hayter write the script, choreograph all the scenes, choose the cast, and play Solid Snake,” then we’re cool with this.
How about you?

Kojima reiterates supervisory role in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow

Hideo Kojima has reiterated that his production company is playing more of a supervisory role than anything else with Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.
He said this already when it was announced at E3, but apparently, he wants to make sure everyone knows it. It’s really Konami Europe’s Dave Cox and Mercury Steam’s baby.
“Kojima Productions is playing more of a support role,” Kojima told to Famitsu. “Castlevania is one of Konami’s most important brands, one that’s seen many releases since the original, and they’ve all been received warmly, but there’s never been a Castlevania created to really satisfy Western gamers. People like Dave were influenced by Castlevania to become game designers, and now they’re making titles like God of War.
“This has become a big project, one with the idea that we needed to make a Castlevania which had that same kind of feverish Western support, and that’s why Kojima Productions came in to help. I think it’s safe to look forward to this title both as a Castlevania game and as an action game.
“It’s got great gameplay and great action, and the graphics are good even to Japanese eyes,” he added.
Kojima’s role so far, he says, is “having them fix things based on my objective viewpoint”, like reworking the hero’s face, which Kojima felt needed to be more “heroic”.

Konami E3: Kojima announces four titles – three Metal Gears and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow

Hideo Kojima took the stage during Konami’s press event at E3 this evening and announced Metal Gear games and the Lords of Shadow game.
Nothing real earth shattering, but here is what happened.
- Metal Gear Solid Arcade was announced, and it’s built on the PS3 engine. Comes with special 3D goggles, and is networked so gamers can compete from different arcades. It will release in Japan this year, and Konami is working out now on how to bring it overseas.
- Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker was shown via a video next, and was described as “grim with lots of nuclear war imagery”. Cold War intrigue and the rise of Outer Heaven in Costa Rica in 1974 is mentioned. You will be able to hide under boxes too, apparently, from big men, guns and robot airship-like things. The main character is “Naked Snake”, and it’s set after MGS3 and a true sequel. Kojima did all of the the writing himself and the MGS4 team was heavily involved.
- Metal Gear Solid Rising was next, and showed that Raiden is indeed back. Kojima says it is for next-gen consoles which means 360, PC, and PS3 with no exclusivity.
- The fourth game is the masked one, and what sounded like Patrick Stewart was narrating. Awesome. It’s Castlevania: Lords of Shadow with Jason Isaacs as a cast member. It stars a character called Gabriel whose mask can bring the dead back to life. It’s out in 2010 for both PS3 and Xbox 360. Teaser video was full of “hard action” and Kojima notes that this is a new start for the series. Producer, Dave Cox, came on stage and called it a re-imagining that’s not connected to any of the other games in the franchise. The story is of a hero looking for “revenge and retribution” and is being developed by Mercurysteam, with Kojima Productions supervising.
Kojima says that Konami looked to a global audience when deciding which direction to to go with the Castlevania title, and found that the world “demands bloodthirsty action with men that wield crucifix-whips”.
Kojima then left the stage, being replaced by a trailer for Saw and the actor who plays Jigsaw in the movies.
Big thanks, IGN.

Rumor: Listing for Metal Gear Solid: Peace Maker, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow surface

Konami rumor floating about shows new titles Metal Gear Solid: Peace Maker for PSP and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow for Xbox 360 and PS3.
It was accidentally posted on GamesPress.
MGS on PSP is not too much of a stretch, but the adding “Castlevania” to Lords of Shadow despite how much it looks like a one of the titles is a bit surprising.
Also, according to the slip, Metal Gear Solid: Rising is not a 360 exclusive but will head to PC and PS3 as well.
Hopefully the Konami press event on June 3 will reveal more.
Head over to Joystiq for the full thing.
