Study suggests idle consoles used $1.24 billion in power in 2010
According to a Carnegie Mellon report, about 68% of all energy used by consoles is consumed in an idle state. All up, that useless power came to around 10.8 TWh at a cost of around $1.24 billion over the course of 2010. That’s a significant drain on natural resources which could be eliminated with better use of automatic power consumption options. Make sure you opt into automatic shut down on both your PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360; the latter has it on by default.
