Google, Apple key to paid app success, says Critter Crunch dev
In a GDC session, as reported by Edge, Nathan Vella of Capybara Games said that earning a featured spot on Apple or Google’s app stores is the best way to promote a premium mobile game. He mentioned a number of other factors like not launching in the same week as big titles, figuring out what makes the game special and designing the game before deciding how to monetise it, but said leveraging fan interest to help get platform holders’ interest is vital. “Both of their companies have extremely ‘ear to the ground’ editorial teams and if you can make a splash, they will notice,” he said.

Double Fine and Capybara Games team up for Capy Fine Racing GP
Super Time Force, Critter Crunch and Sword & Sworcery developer Capybara Games has joined forces with Double Fine for a special promotion at PAX East. EDGE reports the two companies will share a booth, and have produced a little OutRun style racer starring characters from both developers’ catalgoues called Capy Fine Racing GP. The game will only be available on 3.5″ floppy discs, inside the Capy Double Fine PAX combo, a boxed release of the Steam bundle. “We only made 200 boxes, and even then some of the floppies might not work, but the people who buy them will be allowed and encouraged to share the game,” Capy co-founder Nathan Vella said. PAX East runs March 22-24 in Boston.

Capybara Games’ latest to be revealed at PAX East, teaser image looks rather retro
Capybara Games, developers of Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes, have released the first image of its next game which will be revealed in full at PAX East this week. The game’s title and contents are still shrouded in mystery at the moment, but the screenshot seems to indicate it will have a retro look about it. Head over to Eurogamer for a look.

Critter Crunch hits Steam next week for $6.99

Suda 51 to lend vocal talent to Sword & Sworcery EP
Grasshopper Manufacture boss Goichi Suda voices Logfella in the Japanese release of Sword & Sworcery EP, localisation team 8-4 Play has confirmed. The critically and commercially successful indie adventure hits Japan this week on iOS, Mac and PC.

Superbrothers contributing to Sound Shapes
Sword & Sworcery creator Superbrothers has announced it will be contributing to musical Vita title Sound Shapes. As detailed on the PS Blog, Superbrothers will offer a number of tracks created in collaboration with long time creative partner Jim Guthrie, presented as an “album” called CORPOREAL. Sound Shapes is the brainchild of Queasy Games, features tracks from several notable artists including Deadmau5, and has not been dated.

Confirmed – Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery heading to PC and Mac
Capybara’s Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery has been formally announced for PC and Mac. The game will be released sometime “before the summer solstice” on Mac, and before the “next dark moon” – which occurs on April 21 – on PC. The firm promises it will be a “faithful recreation” of the original iOS game with added keyboard and mouse controls. Thanks, Eurogamer.

Indie and other games of interest: Become a shark, hunt down vampires

There are a few tidbits of indie and other games of interest stuff past the break this week. One stand out, in our opinion, is Miami Shark, where you literally get to play as one of the giant fish. Awesome stuff.
Also, there’s the usual free stuff, sneak peeks and a barrage of other stuff you normally wouldn’t see during the week.
