Investment banker says global games market’s worth $105 billion
An investment banker with Avista Partners, Paul Heydon, has estimated the global games market cap has reached $105 billion when factoring in online games.

Report – Polish tech firm to buy CD Projekt
Witcher developer CD Projekt is to be bought by a Polish tech firm, Optimus.
That’s according to a report on Polygamia (via GI), who claim the takeover is to switch the developer from being privately owned into a publicly traded business on the Warsaw Stock Exchange.
The move is expected to be made with stock only, while the developer’s owners will become primary shareholders. An official announcement is due soon.

Paddington Academy officially opened today
The UK’s Princess Anne formally opened the Paddington Academy today.
The specialist school for performing arts, media, business and enterprise was co-funded by the United Learning Trust and GamesAid.
Official classes started in 2007, but the ribbon cutting did not occur until today, with a ceremony attended by volunteers and philanthropists.
“The Academy has been one of the focal points for money raised by our industry over a number of years,” said ELSPA chairman Andy Payne. “It’s a very proud day for everyone involved and a real thrill to be here to witness such a positive learning environment.

Woolworths’ ex-game boss John Stanhope signs on with Tesco
EUK’s former games bossman John Stanhope has a new job with Tesco as its senior buying manager, says MCV.
Stanhope was previously Woolworths’ head of the commercial division before the chain went under in November 2008.
Entertianment director for Tesco, Rob Salter, said that “John has the respect and trust of the industry and the appointment will enable us to continue to work closely with our partners as we drive the business forward.”
Good for John. Hope all Woolworths employees are as lucky.
