Bohemia pinged us to point out that the Arma 3 alpha has been updated. There are plenty of changes to take in but the key items include improved network performance, reducing vehicle lag; an end to some peculiar crashes; and that you can no longer throw grenades under water. Okay, maybe that last one is interesting mainly to me. Full patch notes are available on Steam.

DayZ Standalone will go into Alpha sometime after a development review in June, Dean Hall has told Joystiq.

Arma 3 has a new video offering available which takes a closer look at infantry combat. The offering is the second in a series of tutorial videos being produced for the community in support of the game and its Alpha test. Arma 3 is out during Q3 2013.

The free, limited version of the Arma 3 Alpha, called the Arma 3 Alpha Lite, is now available. It does not include multiplayer or modding support, and is invite-only, and a spot can be obtained from people who have purchased the Arma 3 Alpha. Invites will also be randomly distributed via the Arma 3 social channels and as giveaways by media outlets. The ArmA 3 Alpha Lite expires on June 15, does not provide access to the beta and does not include a copy of the final game. The game releases in Q3 2013.

A devblog showing some in game footage of DayZ Standalone has been released. It discusses a solution to the “zombie zig zag”, “server side mass zombie spawns, and loot spawning inside wrecks.” While the video pretty much touches on everything mentioned on the blog side of things, if you prefer to read, you can scan for information on: the inventory system, crafting, expanding the health system, the Chernarus expansion, loot spawning, and more. Bohemia Interactive has released a pile of new character and environment images for the standalone release of DayZ. Once expected to be a simple conversion of the existing mod, the project has since blown out to a full remake, and it’s paying off, as the new assets show. Check out the images through the break.
