Star Wars: The Old Republic held a cantina tour at gamescom this week, and those who attended where handed some assets of upcoming content heading to the MMO. If you head over to Dulfy.net, you can get a look at images such as concept art for the dewback mount, the planet Oricon, the F5-SC battle droid refer a friend award, the Makrin pet coming to the Cartel Market and more. Dragon Age: Inquisition’s “tighter emphasis on story” and choices doesn’t fit with a true open-world game
Dragon Age: Inquisition’s world will be more open than previous titles, but don’t go in expecting it to be a true, open world game because it just wouldn’t fit right with the series, according to creative director Mike Laidlaw.

Dragon Age: Inquisition was introduced at gamescom by EA labels president Frank Gibeau, who showed a developer diary for BioWare discussing the game. Players will have to make choices like saving burning villages, and as part of the Inquisition you have more power and options in the world than regular inhabitants, including the ability to send agents out on your behalf. BioWare has a launched a new incentive for Star Wars: The Old Republic, in which subscribers will earn a Battle Droid pet, Cartel Coins, and the Kurtob Alliance Speeder if they get a friend to sign up or return to the game. The referred friend also gets a few perks: new subs receive the Jumpstart Bundle for faster levelling; previous subs receive seven days of subscription access, one Complimentary Character Transfer for the lifetime of the account, and the Preferred Friends Bundle with special convenience and customization unlocks. BioWare designer Matt Rhodes has posted some Mass Effect concept art which shows early ideas for Commander Shepard, and other designs spanning the series. Rhodes also shows off some concept art for Dragon Age, and notes how his ideas for female character design have changed over the years, and will be on display in Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Dragon Age: Inquisition will contain a revamped dialogue system, according to a BioWare panel at PAX Australia, and the change up is thanks to suggestions made by players of the previous entries in the series.

The next big update for Star Wars: The Old Republic is 2.3, coming on August 6 with two new flashpoints and an Ewok companion, but BioWare says that update 2.4, which is tentatively dated for October 1, might be an even bigger deal, as it will arrive with two new operations, new 4v4 arenas and a new tier of gear for both PvP and PvE.

BioWare is celebrating the tenth anniversary of seminal Xbox RPG Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic. Head on over to the BioWare Blog to read a number of posts from team members who worked on the 2003 release, and to score a set of variant wallpapers. KOTOR, as it is fondly known, spawned an Obsidian-developed sequel and MMORPG The Old Republic. You can still pick it up on iPad, Mac and PC if you feel nostalgic.

Apple port specialist Aspyr is offering some tasty savings on BioWare’s classic, ten year old RPG, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. You can pick up the iPad version for $5 directly from the App Store, and if you sign into Aspyr’s GameAgent service you’ll see a discount code bringing the OS-X port down to $2.50; otherwise, it’s also on sale at $5, down from $10.

Bioware has updated SWTOR by adding a Nightmare Mode to Legions of Scum and Villainy, via Update 2.2.2. You can check it out in the video below and read more on it through the official update. The team is also teasing more on its Game Update 2.3, Titans of Industry, through a game page update regarding the Czerka Corporation. There’s not much on it at the moment, but enough to whet your appetite a bit.
