Mass Effect 3 demo on 360 comes with temporary access to XBL Gold
Bioware has announced a deal with Microsoft which will allow Silver members of Xbox Live to try out the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer demo. According to a post on the Bioware forums, the demo will come with Gold access when you download the demo – but only for a limited time. The demo for Mass Effect 3 launches February 14 on PSN and XBL.

Mass Effect 3 mobile to be revealed soon
An EA representative has told Kotaku that tie-in titles for Mass Effect 3, regularly mentioned during EA’s quarterly financials, will be revealed soon. The representative made specific mention of both “handheld” and “mobile”, suggesting we could be looking at more than an iOS app, and said the tie-ins would be part of the Galaxy at War system – also tied to Mass Effect 3′s multiplayer – by which players can affect events within the core game. Mass Effect 3 launches on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in March.

SWTOR Guild Summit announced for March 4-6 in Austin, Texas
Bioware has announced the first Star Wars: The Old Republic Guild Summit, which will take place in Austin, TX March 4 – 6 at the DoubleTree Hotel Austin. During the event, guild leaders will be able to discuss “the state of the game” with the developers from BioWare Austin. Guild leaders or a designated officer in case the guild leader is unable to attend, will participate in Q&A sessions with developers, roundtable feedback discussions, and will get a preview of some upcoming game features. Bioware said its goal with the event is to “facilitate an open discussion between guild leaders and the game design team.”
Space is limited and will be “invite-only” with some invitations already sent. Interested guild leaders which have not been invited already, can fill out the application here.

New Mass Effect 3 video shows off cast, confirms Jessica Chobot
EA’s released a new video of Mass Effect 3, reeling out the cast for the game. The clip features the return of Martin Sheen as Illusive Man, Seth Green as Joker, Ali Hillis as Liara and Jennifer Hale as FemShep, plus the debut of Freddie Prinze. Jr as James Vega and confirmation that IGN host Jessica Chobot will voice new character Diana Allers. Get it below the break.
The BioWare series finale launches on March 6 in the US and March 9 in Europe for PS3, 360 and PC.

FRC up in arms over same-sex relationships in SWTOR
The Family Research Council has taken great umbrage to the fact Star Wars: The Old Republic will eventually allow same-sex relationships in the MMO. So much so, its president, Tony Perkins, lambasted the game on a radio broadcast stating that “in a new Star Wars game, the biggest threat to the empire may be homosexual activists.”

Pre-order Mass Effect art book, get a download code for the Collector Assault Rifle
The extra DLC options for Mass Effect 3 pre-orders continue today with the announcement of Dark Horse’s “Art of the Mass Effect Universe” book. If you pre-order the art collection through Barnes and Noble, you’ll receive download code for character boosters and a Collector Assault Rifle for multiplayer. Here’s the word on the rifle: “The Collector Assault Rifle uses the same principles as a human assault rifle, but its organic components clearly set it apart. Its power source appears to be an internal organ with biotic capacitance; its ammunition resembles pellets of metallic enamel that strip shields off enemies with deadly efficiency.” So, there you have it. Mass Effect 3 is out in March.

BioWare pushes out abillity delay patch for SWTOR
BioWare’s dropped a minor update for Star Wars: The Old Republic, in which it fixes the ability delay. The small update brings the MMO up to 1.1.0b, but it insisted on the game’s forums it didn’t want to wait until the next big update before it came out, opting instead to get it out to players as soon as possible.

Mass Effect 3 figurines to include North American exclusive DLC
US retailer BigBadToyStore has posted a listing for Mass Effect 3 figures which include downloadable in-game bonus items exclusive to the North American release. Figurines for Miranda, Garrus, Mordin and Legion cost $17.99 each or in a four-pack for $67.99. Another pack containing Tali, Thane, Grunt and Shepard is currently on backorder, and are listed for the same price. The DLC content wasn’t mentioned in the report on MCV or in the retail listings. Mass Effect 3 is out in March for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Mass Effect: Deception tie-in novel releases January 31
The latest Mass Effect tie-in novel, Deception, goes on sale on January 31. Although penned by William C. Dietz, it continues the storyline of the previous novels written by Drew Karpyshyn, and focuses on Gillian, Grayson’s Biotic ward. No word on whether David Anderson, the only character to appear prominently in both books and games, makes a return as well. You can read an extract on the BioWare Blog which may answer that. Mass Effect 3 is due in March on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, if that somehow slipped your mind despite being hardcore enough to have read three tie-in novels already.

The LA Times has posted a retrospective on Star Wars: The Old Republic, and in it, the piece revealed that quite a lot of work from many sectors went into creating the game. So much so, that Bioware co-founder Greg Zeschuck likened coordinating the efforts to “teaching elephants to do ballet.”
