Bigpoint staff move to avoid further job cuts
Employees at online gaming company Bigpoint have voted to install an employee organisation to represent them. German public services trade union Verdi has assisted the move and will manage working conditions.

Universal Monsters Online enters closed beta, now accepting open beta registrations
Bigpoint has announced Universal Monsters Online has entered closed beta, and is now accepting open beta registrations. The free-to-play MOBA pits a cast of monsters into a “winner-take-all” timed gameplay session where two opposing teams are tasked with raiding enemy territory to locate a damsel in distress and returning her to the team’s fortress. During closed beta, players can choose from iconic monsters such as Dracula, The Wolf Man, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, and Frankenstein’s monster, among others. A video posted below walks you through setting up your account, picking a monster to play, and choosing a match.

Reisberger brothers exit Bigpoint
Managing directors Philip and Tobias Reisberger have left free-to-play publisher Bigpoint, Develop reports. The pair have launched a mobile developer, AppFlag, and a consulting business. Bigpoint has grown enormously during the pair’s tenure, adding a second CEO to its international business, enjoying marked success with Battlestar Galactica Online and the ridiculously lucrative Dark Orbit, and snagging the first Game of Thrones MMO license.

Game of Thrones MMO to be called Seven Kingdoms
Bigpoint has settled on a subtitle for its browser-based Game of Thrones MMO – Seven Kingdoms. The title was announced in a press release but little else of note was added to what we learned from the game’s GDC 2012 reveal. We’ll see more of the HBO-partered effort at San Diego Comic Con, which runs July 12-15.

Universal Monsters Online MOBA now accepting closed beta applications
Back in 2010, SEE Virtual Worlds announced an MMO where players can run amok as monsters such as the mummy, Frankenstein’s monster, the wolf-man, etc. But BigPoint has one in the works as well called Universal Monsters Online, which is based on – you guessed it – classic monsters from the various movies produced by Universal Studios. The game is going to be a free-to-play, browser MOBA and the developers are now accepting applications for the closed beta. Now you will have two options to play as Gill-Man instead of just one.

Square Enix, Bigpoint team up for unannounced project
Square Enix has announced its teamed with Bigpoint to release a new, unannounced title from the publisher to the latter’s games portal. The effort, which is “”already well into development,” will be social-focussed and feature heavily on UGC. The game is expected to be detailed in the next few weeks, with a release due within the next six months. It’ll launch on Bigpoint’s website in Europe and North America.
