Free-to-play games will eventually threaten the console business, says EA’s Cousens

EA: Respawn creating own IPs, not Battlefield or Medal of Honor
EA Games boss Frank Gibeau has made it pretty clear what the stance is on Respawn Entertainment are making from the EA side of things: new IPs, nothing from existing shooters from the publisher.

EA has said that over 3.5 million people have tried out the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 demo so far on Xbox 360 and PS3.

Battlefield Heroes to release before April 2009
According to financial statements released by EA tonight, free-to-play DICE shooter Battlefield Heroes will release before the end of the company’s financial year in April.
The game has bee delayed several times, and recently entered yet another beta phase.
The news arrives on the back of Q3 losses to the tune of $641 million.

Snow cancels new DICE console game showing in UK
EA’s confirmed to VG247 that a new, unannounced DICE console game was to be shown in the UK today, but the event has been cancelled thanks to snow.
What is it? We’ve been told it’s a new Battlefield, and that an Army of Two sequel was to be shown at the event. EA’s having none of it.
“No mention of either Battlefield or Army of Two,” an EA rep said this afternoon.
“The console-only DICE project is yet to be announced.”
Aside from the DICE game, the new Warhammer Online classes announced last week were definitely to be seen today, as were the new Need for Speed games, SHIFT, NITRO and World Online.
Sounds like the identity of that DICE game won’t stay under wraps for much longer. On reflection: Mirror’s Edge 2?
