BioWare doctors lecture BAFTA on art: watch it now

BAFTA’s gone up with its annual yearly video games lecture, this time given by BioWare doctors Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk. The pair talk for half an hour before opening up to a half-hour Q&A, chaired by Eurogamer’s Johnny Minkley. The full thing’s over on BAFTA’s site, but there’s a small preview below.

Pickford: UK BAFTAS “designed to discourage smaller games”

Speaking to Spong, iOS developer Ste Pickford has claimed the UK BAFTAs are not suited to the task of awarding excellence in the field of development, saying the entry fee alone “seems designed to discourage smaller games from becoming involved.”

LBP2, NFS: Hot Pursuit, Angry Birds among Kids BAFTA nominations

BAFTA’s announced the list of games nominated within this year’s list of games categories in the Children’s BAFTAs. For best game, the choice is between Kirby’s Epic Yarn, LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean, LittleBigPlanet 2 and Pokemon Black & White. In the Kids Choice award, nominations are between Angry Birds Rio, Cut the Rope, FIFA 11, Just Dance 2, Kinect Sports, Michael Jackson: The Experience, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, Professor Layton and the Lost Future, The Sims 3, Wii Party. Size Five Games’ Privates is also up for a nomination in the Learning – Secondary category.

The ceremony happens on November 27.

BAFTA adds four new games category awards for 2012

BAFTA has added new categories to its game awards: Debut Game, Online – Browser, Online – Multiplayer and Performer. The Debut award will be handed to a studio releasing its first game during the same year the award is given, and the performance award will be handed to either voice or motion work. The Online browser award is self explanatory, and Online multiplayer can apply to any game which has online multiplayer capabilities. The BAFTAs take place on Friday, March 16, and nominations open on February 16. Thanks, GI.biz.

BAFTA Winners: Uncharted 2 takes four awards, Batman gets Best Game

Uncharted 2 walked off with Best Action Game at the BAFTA awards this evening, beating out Assassin’s Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Modern Warefare 2, inFamous, and Left 4 Dead 2.

It also took the awards for Use of Audio, Original Score and Story. It’s up for nine awards tonight.
