Austin: Street Fighter 25th Anniversary tournament this weekend
Street Fighter fans in and around Austin, Texas will be the first to take part in Capcom’s 25th Anniversary tournament series, which boasts a number of popular titles from the fighting franchise’s history. The first round of the touring event runs July 28-29, so if you’re keen to participate get on it, fast – it’s free, although there’s a refundable reservation charge. More details are available on Capcom-Unity, and you can register on the official anniversary website. For those of us stranded elsewhere, there are more events to come – and all the action will be livestreamed.

Austin dev team “critically important,” says NCSoft
After announcing job losses in Brighton and Austin last week, NCsoft exec David Reid says the Austin is “critically important” to the company’s future.
“We really do believe that Austin is going to grow at a fairly dramatic pace over the next few years,” said Reid, with a nod in the direction of upcoming MMO Aion: The Tower of Eternity.
Hopefully the news will go some way in placating the Austin team in light of the recent cutbacks.

Rumour: Midway drops 80-90 staff in Austin
Kotaku’s rumouring that between 80 and 90 staff have been laid off at the company’s Austin outfit. From the piece:
Another tipster tells us that a majority of those laid off were from the recently canceled Criminal team. So many people were laid off at the studio, the tipster says, that those who weren’t received a phone call Sunday night telling them to stay home. Everyone else who showed up were “processed and laid off.”
