Platinum Games doesn’t make normal things. It just doesn’t. Hair-clad butterfly witches, a game show about wanton murder, and all kinds of other kooky ideas are just another day at the office for Platinum’s intrepid crew of oddballs.
And in a world full of gray, stoic, gray shooters, the kind of zaniness that Platinum peddles is a welcome injection of color. Tired of trudging from cover-to-cover, taking a couple potshots, and then repeating the process until the act of blasting a person in the face automatically triggers your yawn reflex? Then Vanquish is for you. We’re talking about a game where your primary means of transportation is a rocket-powered knee-slide here. Also, you’re fighting space Russians. Platinum Games doesn’t make normal things. And thank God for that.
After resisting the urge to tackle producer Atsushi Inaba and wrestle the controller from his hands, we got the chance to ask him a few post-demo session questions at E3. Platinums’ Atsushi Inaba has said that MadWorld’s a Wii system seller.
“We’ve had positive feedback online from users who’ve said that this is a must-buy, that it’s a reason to buy a Wii,” he told Kikizo.
Why Wii? It all boils down to “pick up and play” ability, apparently.
“The main reason is we wanted to create a new title for the Wii specifically, and if we developed for other platforms, we wouldn’t be able to develop a new title, new ideas,” he said. “We wanted to make something that was easy to pick up and play.”
Game’s out March 10 and 20 in the US and UK respectively.

Atsushi Inaba – creator of MadWorld, Okami and Viewtiful – feels that Japanese developers are lagging behind their western counterparts.
“To be honest, I think that western developers are superior to those in Japan overall,” he said in an interview with Develop.
“So we the Japanese developers should realize that we have to work hard to reach the western level. We’re fast reaching a stage where it’s going to be about individual developers and not about what country they are in, globalisation is coming to our industry too.”
Inaba also mentioned that original IPs will provide “developers with an unrivaled opportunity to succeed”

Yasumi Matsuno, designer for Final Fantasy XII has lent his hand to game scenarios on MadWorld.
Apparently, he and Platinum’s Atsushi Inaba are old pals.
Looks like more reason to give MadWorld a try: if you are a fan of Final Fantasy XII that is.

Platinum Games confirmed at Game Convention that online Mad World features are being considered.
Project head Atsushi Inaba said that the “game is for single-player, just for single-player,” but the firm is “still in discussions and may have [online] features to announce.”
The comments came at the end of a lengthy presentation of the Wii game at the German show, which showed the game looking distinctly distinct in all its black and white goriness.
Mad World’s out early next year.

Mad World creator Platinum Games has said to CVG that Mad World was developed for Wii because “it feels like a game that is at home.”
“We’re really interested in the Wii platform so we wanted to create a really cool and stylish game for that,” said Platinum’s Atsushi Inaba.
“As you can see [from our Leipzig presentation] it’s really easy to pick up and play so when we came up with the concept of Mad World the Wii felt like a good console for that. It feels like a game that is at home on Wii.”
