God of War: Ascension was the recipient of a new gamescom trailer today, and the firm also announced it will be launching a global multiplayer beta for the game in the near future.

Sony Santa Monica has posted a look at the Elephantaur – a Minotaur hybrid – which you will be fighting in God of War: Ascension. Apparently, inspiration for the anthropomorphic elephant originated with God of War III, but the idea was scrapped. Add in the fact that Izzy, its concept artist, was once bullied by an elephant in Thailand, and you have yourself a monster you can hack and slash in order to exact revenge for Izzy. Sony has released a single-player and multiplayer trailer for God of War: Ascension. The single-player video, as you will notice, contains many scenes culled from the E3 stage demo Sony showed here last week, while the other video shows off the arena. Sony has announced a collector’s edition for God of War: Ascension, which includes a steel book case, a Kratos statue, the official, digital game soundtrack , a PS3 dynamic theme and PSN avatar pack, with double XP points for multiplayer, and a DLC pass to unlock all future DLC releases for free. Also announced were pre-order incentives for both the standard and collector’s edition, which will include the Mythological Heroes Multiplayer DLC Pack. The collector’s edition will run $79.99, while the standard edition is $59.99. Game’s out March 12.
