The Elite update for God of War: Ascension is live alongside a double XP weekend. The update is rather hefty, and it comes with new elite levels, relics, magic, and items for Poseidon and Zeus. The allegiance level cap has increased from 30 to 40 with the addition of 10 levels for every God allegiance, a player stat card, a game mode inspect card and Match of Champions adjustments. Key bugs and combat balancing have also been addressed. You can look over the entire patch notes through the official website.

God of War: Ascension will soon be updated to version 1.04, which comes with a fix to audio issues as well as enhancements to multiplayer.

A new God of War: Ascension developer diary has been released, discussing the mythological succubus Empusa. In Greek mythology, she was at one time a demigoddess and the daughter of Hecate, but in later writings she became a type of spectre-monster under the control of Hecate. Whatever her origins are in the game, though, she looks rather formidable and her physical attributes seem to defy gravity. Lucky her. Game’s out March 12 in NA, and from March 13 in Europe.

The God of War: Ascension single-player demo will be released next week to the “winning team” in the Rise of the Warrior social challenge. It’s a week earlier than when everyone else gets it on February 26. The first team playing as Spartans or Trojansto to hit 10-million points, will earn said early access to the demo on February 20. Sony has announced that if you pre-order God of War: Ascension through Best Buy, you’ll nab an exclusive Viking-centric multiplayer weapon inspired by the Viking series on the History Channel. While supplies last, every copy will come with a voucher for the DLC weapon “Mjölnir,” or Hammer of Thor, for use in Ascension’s multiplayer mode. Sony has detailed the God of War: Ascension bundles to be made available in Europe a bit more, which means if you don’t want a white PS3 with a Gold Controller, you can get the console in black instead. White shows a lot of smudges, well, it does in my animal filled house. Anyway, it’s nice to have options, and you can also pick up the Gold DualShock Controller separately. Sony has released another God of War: Ascension teaser, which relates to a commercial to be shown during the Super Bowl. The ad will be aired online, not on TV. The big football match takes place Sunday, February 3. Game’s out on PS3 in March.

A God of War: Ascension single-player demo will be made available in February, Sony has announced. The firm called it a “full-fledged single player demo,” so hopefully it will last quite while. Details on the demo will be announced “in the coming weeks.” You can get a 38 second look at the portion you’ll be playing via the teaser trailer posted yesterday. The God of War: Ascension panel from PAX Prime has been released by Sony on highlight video form. Panelists include: Mark Simon – lead designer, Patrick Murphy – principal character artist, Marianne Krawczyk – writer of the God of War series, and Todd Papy – game director. God of War: Ascension will release March 12 in North America, March 13 in Europe, March 14 in Australia and New Zealand, and March 15 in the UK.
