Shacknews is reporting that just one day after America’s Army 3 was released, the U.S. Army decided to close its Emeryville, California-based based studio responsible for the title, in order to “consolidate development.”
However, that’s not the end of the line for you gaming American military fans, an army rep has confirmed that the series will continue over at Redstone Arsenal, AL.
“This consolidation will allow us to gain efficiencies between our public and government applications,” the representative explained.
“We appreciate all the hard work that every member of the America’s Army team has contributed to the project, and we look forward to delivering future America’s Army game releases in the months ahead.”

America’s Army 3 will be available on Steam when it launches later this year, reports Kotaku.
A single sign-in system’s being implemented and multiple soldiers can be created on one account.
The game has been updated considerably, with gravity affecting weapon fire, ricochet effects, the ability to switch easily between gameplay and training, tactical sound, and more.
“One of the big things we heard was that players like customization,” said the game’s executive producer, Marsha Berry.
“We have a lot of customization on how you can load down your character.”
No exact release date was forthcoming but as soon as we know something, you will too.

America’s Army 3 will release in 2009, as confirmed in the free title’s official announcement.
The game’s third version marks another chapter in a six-year history of America’s Army, and will apparently include “authentic weapons and technologies, realistic training and exciting gameplay missions.”
It probably doesn’t include the bit where you pile people up in stacks on a prison floor, or the part where you get blown to smithereens in some godforsaken desert by a nail-filled roadside bomb, but we’re sure it’ll be a great laugh.
