Former People Can Fly dev: Bioshock Infinite design “proof that the old territory is on fire and we need to go”
Adrian Chmielarz, former Creative Director at Bulletstorm and Gears of War: Judgment developer People Can Fly, believes the next generation could change games development for the better. He discussed the pitfalls of games including Bioshock Infinite, Uncharted and Tomb Raider in a recent interview with Eurogamer.

People Can Fly founder Adrian Chmielarz had an idea for Bulletstorm 2 before he left the company, and said “the pulpiness and the craziness of it was through the roof.”

The Astronauts, a new studio comprised of ex-People Can Fly developers has stated that it’s no longer phased by large games, and has opted to focus on smaller experiences. The team’s debut project, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter aims to revolutionise story-telling in games, despite its smaller stature.

“Do you know any swear word in a foreign language? German, French, Polish? When you say it out loud, no biggie, right? Not a problem to use it during a family dinner, I assume? That is how all the f-bombs sounded to us. Being Polish, all the strong language in Bulletstorm was just exotic and fun to us. We did not feel its power. People Can Fly’s Bulletstorm has been described as being full of slap-stick violence with over-the-top antics thrown in for fun.
However, some over-the-top ideas concocted for the game were just too much, and had to be cast aside.

People Can Fly’s founder and creative director Adrian Chmielarz has said people who expect Bulletstorm to just be a “mindless shooter full of toilet humor” will expect a pleasant shock when they experience the full game.
