Argos claims 60Gb 360 is no more
UK retailer Argos is claiming that Microsoft has binned the 60GB Xbox 360.
“We are very sorry but Microsoft have discontinued this line,” says the product’s listing (thanks EG).
Multiple reports are saying Microsoft is about to ditch the Pro and drop the Elite £60 to take its place.

Used 60Gb PS3s selling for more than new 80Gb in UK
UK retailer GAME is selling a handful of used 60Gb Playstation3s for the princely sum of £349.99 and upwards.
This is £50 more than the new 80Gb model which is heavily rumoured to be hitting UK shores this Friday.
In fact, 60Gb models have been selling for around £400 on Amazon, which, combined with GAME’s high pricing, could mean that backwards compatibility is something people want and are willing to pay extra for.
Just a hunch.

EU 60Gb launch: Specifics for each country still unknown, says MS
Microsoft has told videogaming247 today that although the UK will get the 60Gb Xbox 360 on August 15, specifics for a Europe-wide launch are still unknown.
“They should be shipping all over Europe during the same timeframe as us, though I don’t know specifics for each country,” a Microsoft UK spokesperson informed us earlier.
We’ve phoned our local EB Games in Denmark to check on price and availability and it hasn’t even got the machine in its system yet.
Hopefully those of you living on the Mainland won’t have to wait too long.

60Gb Xbox 360 launches on August 15 in UK
Microsoft confirmed today that the 60Gb Xbox 360 SKU announced at E3 will release in the UK on August 15. That’s this Friday.
“No one device offers the depth and breadth of entertainment that Xbox 360 can deliver and we know consumers need increasingly more and more space to store the amazing digital entertainment content we provide” said Euro Xbox man, Neil Thompson.
“Now the Xbox 360 has triple the space to house all your entertainment needs at no extra cost.”
No price changes. And that’s it. Press release after the link.

60Gb US 360 has no specific street date, says Microsoft
The 60Gb Xbox 360 announced at E3 is starting to pop up all over the place, but Microsoft has dashed talk of bombshell street date-breaking by confirming that the machine will just release gradually.
“They’ll just appear in the retail channels,” Major Nelson told X3F.
The consoles were rumoured to be on sale earlier this week, but it seems as though it’s fact now. Incredible.

No 360 price cut or 60Gb machine in the UK, says Microsoft
Spong’s reporting that Microsoft’s confirmed that announced changes to 360 strategy in the US won’t make it to the UK.
“The 60GB Xbox 360 and the 20GB clearance sale are for the US only,” said a rep. “We have not announced any changes in Xbox 360 offerings or pricing in Europe.”
Hardly shocking, but there we are.

Microsoft confirms 60Gb 360, price cut for 20Gb model
Microsoft’s confirmed the long-rumoured 60Gb Xbox 360 SKU for the US, as well as officially announcing a price cut for the current 20Gb machine.
The 60Gb console will ship in “early August,” according to the press release, and is priced at $349.
The 20Gb SKU has now dropped $50 to $299, and is to be available “while supplies last.”
“We know consumers need more and more space to store the amazing digital content Xbox 360 offers, and we’re giving it to them at no extra charge,” said Albert Penello, Xbox director of product management at Microsoft. “No one device offers the depth and breadth of entertainment that Xbox 360 can deliver, and now you’ll have three times the storage to manage all that great content.”

60Gb 360 rumoured, Pachter spits in its puny face
In a story that started here, Microsoft is being rumoured as looking at releasing a 60Gb Xbox 360 SKU and dropping the 20Gb package this summer in the US.
“Dates are not nailed down, but my source says Microsoft wants it done and dusted before the end of its financial year which translates as our Q2,” said the report.
Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter waded in immediately, saying 60Gb was rubbish.
“I think the console [manufacturers] all misjudged the quantity of downloadable content and the opportunity to actually download meaningful content, and so what sounded like a good idea in 2003 or 2004 in the design stage with the 20GB hard drive on the 360 was just not sufficient. Frankly, the surprise to me is that the new SKU is [purportedly] 60GB. I mean, I would think they’d introduce a 200GB or 500GB and eliminate the 20GB and make the 120GB the standard cheapie one. I think that more is better, although I don’t think most people will fill up their hard drive; but I think that as you feel you’re getting close you start to be less likely to download content.”
All we’ll say is, just remember this.

Larger HD PS3 SKU to replace 80Gb version, says rumour
Probably bollocks, but inevitable chatter nonetheless. With rumours of the demise of America’s 80Gb PS3 SKU circulating heavily last week as the result of a “leaked internal memo” from US retailer Best Buy, it was only a matter of time before the internet ran away with itself and started predicting a 120-160Gb replacement.
Sony’s said nothing yet. And we can’t contact anyone to ask, because we haven’t launched.
European gamers can only buy a 40Gb SKU after the 60Gb version was phased out, so all this is pretty much Greek at the moment. We’ll be able to talk to SCEE in an official capacity next week.
