Being the top of the pops at a fighting game no one plays for the fighting can’t be easy. After all, how do you make time for the legions of challengers who want to boot you right out of your throne?
The answer, as it turns out, is the same you’ve undoubtedly given to most of life’s major quandaries: robots.

Despite appearances to the contrary, the 3DS’ launch lineup isn’t all quick ports whose biggest upgrades are the addition of “3D” to their titles. Case in point: Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars. It’s a brand new turn-based tactical game from none other than the creator of X-Com himself, Julian Gollop.
Yes, yes, we know Ocarina of Time is the greatest game of all time , but Shadow Wars looks to be a pretty darn promising upstart. Read all about it after the break.

The last 24 hours have seen the gaming news-o-blog-o-tweet-o-tube-o-sphere erupt with 3DS details, showering panicked readers with large chunks of concrete info. Needless to say, it’s been pretty darn gruesome – and only a little bit hilarious.
We, however, have continued to dig through the resulting ocean of ash and fanboy sweat, and here’s what we’ve uncovered.

So there’s this girl who looks like Little Red Riding Hood, and she’s a witch. Or maybe she’s not a witch. Anyway, Professor Layton – who we still say looks like a Lego man – starts accusing her, only for Phoenix Wright to show up and point his finger with such fiery intensity that Layton reconsiders. We think. And then they go on adventures, and Little Red Riding Hood gets chased by the KKK.
So basically, this looks incredible. Check out the first trailer after the break, courtesy of the official Layton vs. Wright website.

Update: For the time being, Game Boy Advance titles are a no-go. Iwata only specifically mentioned Game Boy and Game Boy Color games. And, surprisingly, when we write something, it doesn’t magically become fact. Shame, huh? Our bad.
Original article: Final hardware? Saw it coming. Release date? Duh. Who calls a press conference without one of those?
Wait, a 3DS Virtual Console, you say? Interesting. Tell us more.

The 3DS is a sleek, elegant, well-dressed piece of hardware, no doubt, but wouldn’t you like to see how it looks – ahem – in the bedroom?
You know, after you’ve disassembled it. In your room. Where else would you do that?

Some technology is just so mind-blowing that it actually makes our heads hurt.
Other technology just makes our heads hurt. Fortunately, Kid Icarus: Uprising boss Masahiro Sakurai has taken great pains to ensure that your 3DS experience will be pain-free.

3D? On a handheld? Without glasses? Preposterous! That sounds like something straight out of the far-flung future.
According to Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, however, the future is a little less than a year off for “all major territories” – not just Japan. Guess we need to start jetpack-proofing our collection of ugly jumpsuits.
