I will tag along on this thread, some people actually have good arguments. Instead of replying every single comment, here follows my sincere opinion on why I fucking love the Vita:
*The "Earlier Months" Effect
Back when the newest Nintendo handheld was released people really saw little on it. "It is just the same thing on 3D" the earlier titles were proving that. It sold WAY less than the original DS on the first two weeks. Few months Nintendo announced a price drop for Japan, and it sold even more. Nintendo bet that the same would happen with the North American Market and European Market. By that time it already had tons of great exclusives such as OoT 3D and Starfox 64 3D, but why didn't it sell: because people didn't feel like it was a 250$ machine. Only to make things worst, people were happy with their DSi's since there were games yet to be released to the older platform such as PokéMon, who only now received a 3DS only title. Let us take a look at the PSVita case: SAME THING, only that this time it had fewer known franchises such as Soul Sacrifice and the remaster of Persona 4 The Golden (which is better as a handheld exclusive) and Sony had the brilliant idea of KEEP MAKING PSP EXCLUSIVES, like Sword Art Online and others. Far from me to say that this was their biggest flaw, but somehow people agree that never in history this had happened when in fact the 3DS suffered in its earlier months and the PSP suffered with it too: How many exclusives were before Monster Hunter and GTA that were actually jaw dropping?
*You play the same game that you play on a console, but better
Mortal Kombat, Need For Speed Most Wanted, BlazBlue, Metal Gear HD Collection are just a few of the examples that the Vita is more than ready to load full games without apparent cuts on graphics or content. Even the controls are better on the cases of MGS and Mortal Kombat, as you make good and realistic use of the both touchscreens (e. g. in MGS3 you can use the back pad to slit the throat of an enemy, way better than just pressing R). I know ports don't make up for the lack of exclusives, but try playing Dirst 2 on PSP then on PS3. Whoa, there were actual and meaningful differences.
*Speaking of the "Exclusivity" issue... also Tech
Vita doesn't need the shitload of exclusives the 3DS has. Reason 1: Can you and are you able to play all that quantity of exclusives? Reason 2: Quality over quantity, most 3DS exclusives are ridiculous and/or boring (sadly, as example, Adventure Time: HIKWDYSOG, yes that is the short title, is an ungraceful and terrible game that barely stands the greatness of the cartoon, not to mention that fucked up Monster High game... UGH) and look at the exclusives on the Vita, Gravity Rush, Assassin's Creed, Persona 4 The Golden, SOUL *FUCKING* SACRIFICE. I acknowledge that the 3DS has a bunch of great exclusives but the apples that spoil the branch are so dull and horrible. The more Vita expands with devs understanding how it works, the more exclusives it will get, and I admit, there will be shitty ones. Now the retro-compatibility is stunning. Don't even start with the UMDs, you can get them inside your PSVita, but for those who grab PSP and PSOne titles via PSN, you bloody know that they look better than on their original platforms. The Vita can run most games at higher resolution, the LED makes the colours brighter and the touch screens make up for the lack of triggers. Once again I have to say something about the 3DS but it will be the last, I know it is a great portable. Try running a DS game on the 3DS. It stays the same. You can't even add the 3D effect EVEN on games that are released to both DS and 3DS. Although the 3D is never a must it would be nice to play Heartgold on the system with those beautiful shinny images popping on the screen as if they were real... ish.
*My opinion on some arguments to back up that the Vita has no future (HUEHUE)
- Players can't save the Vita, but Sony can!
Well Sony could allow humble folk like us to stream Vita games through TVs and then through capture cards. The companies know that if a gamer stream playthroughs or smaller gameplays on YouTube the more people will know about the game and more people would buy it. This would work for PSVita exclusives. We can of course just tell our buds what a great game it is but I would like to see better quality gameplays by EpicNameBro on Soul Sacrifice and even stream my own gameplays/reactions to my... no subs.
- Vita needs more exclusives to save it
It needs more exclusives with QUALITY, I agree, but the system can offer us more than that (Skype, Facebook, it is becoming tablet you guys)
- The Cellphone market is superior to 3DS and Vita
It is a causal market and no one that ONLY plays Angry Birds on their Galaxy S just 'cause it is trendy is gamer. Hardly will show any profit unless you are willing to make a shitty copied P2W game like Temple Run. Portable consoles have better quality and better experiences, no way you will ever play Ocarina of Time on a... wait there are emulators... You can't play MGS3 on a cellphone (great game remastered on Vita and 3DS), or even Kid Icarus, Soul Sacrifice (I bloody love this game), PokéMon X/Y or Gravity Rush.
- The tech is bad
What? You don't like 1080p? An actual good single.. NO, TWO TOUCH PADS THAT ACTUALLY WORK?
- I mean that the tech regarding a storage memory (Proprietary Cards) is bad
Sony can fix it by making a larger SD proprietary card.
- BUT WHY CAN'T I USE MY PSP'S SD CARD?
Becaaaaaaaaaause piracy issues. The PSP struggled with piracy and SD cards just made it easier
- I want Triple A titles liek mah Cowa Doody Modurn Spec Shit 5
Kay, but the Indie titles on the Vita are superb and are more enjoyable than AAA games, but that is just my opinion, you might like yearly expansion packs that cost a full game.
@Clupula Okay I SAID I wasn't gonna individually reply because it would be boring and all but, you are wrong, mate. There are THOSANDS of portable exclusives that sold more than their table counterparts, Monster Hunter 3 sold more on 3DS and PSP than on Wii U.. kay bad example the Wii U is dead. But the cost of production is lesser and you obtain greater results.
PRICE TO MAKE A TABLE CONSOLE GAME: Range from 10 Million US Dollars to 60 Million US Dollars
PRICE TO MAKE A PORTABLE CONSOLE GAME: 1 Million US Dollars up
Stop comparing Table Consoles to Portable Consoles, by the end of the day you will have more fun with your PokéMon (in my case Soul Sacrifice or Patapon) than with your Da Eldy Skrullz V: Skaereem or your Blunderlands 2... okay I love those two I shouldn't be mocking them, but Portable Gaming is more fun and it ain't because there are causal games like PokéMon, it just feels better, like when you play "A FUCKING PORT" on the PSVita, it makes it fun because of the Touch Screen, or on the 3DS with the Touch... somethingy, you use a pen goddammit
That's it I'm done, leave your objections and arguments to sustain I'm wrong and all, I'm just pleased to get off my chest that PSVita ain't a guilty pleasure for me anymore, it is a great device and will be remembered as the father of Demon's Souls 2 or GTA San Andreas Stories or whatever Sony said they were going to launch exclusively on PSVita, those greedy bastards. I hope it is Demon's Souls 2
