Has it actually been confirmed it will be called the 'Xbox 720' or are we all just assuming that and being smug about our mental arithmetic?

Yeah, I think most people are just happy they can count. Afaik, no name until the April reveal.

Yeah it's just a placeholder similar to NextBox or Durango. In terms of likelihood it's right up there with XBox Arsehat and XBox RecordingEverythingYouDo. It doesn't make any sense as a name.Posted 2 months ago # -
Xbox infinity (numeral 8 set horizontally on its side) was the last idea that was "leaked". The theory being that would tie the various MS platform brands closer.

I thought:
Xbox 'Loop'
or simply 'Xbox'
Im suprised Sony went with PS4. The reason MS went with '360' was because if they'd have called it Xbox 2 (which it was), it would have looked inferior to 'PS3'...
I thought most companies realised having numbers after a device is a bit of a weakness. Apple changing back to just 'iPad' for example.

XBox Gold would be too confusing compared to Live Gold though. Those domain scuffles are perhaps linked to new XBox Live Gold services through the NextBox.

I was at Gamestop yesterday and an employee there kept calling it "Nextbox". He was using it as slag, but Damn it sounds dumb when said out loud.

My bet is just Xbox, the loop was supposedly a cheaper version that gives the media abilities of the console (possibly with Kinect) to compete with the Apple Tv.
With the popularity of the xbox brand, they probably arent worried about using an xbox 4 naming style like Xbox quad, or Xbox 4u, as they did with the 360. I imagine its just going to be called Xbox, Xbox infinity would fit if they are indeed thinking that Xbox live will transition to cloud gaming completely later on in the consoles life, but I highly doubt it.
