Yes, I'll be getting it if it's on for £19.99, I'm not paying £40 though.

Bought this last night, it's actually pretty fun and the graphics are a huge step up from arma 2. Was great hiding behind rocks and trees and looking for enemies hiding in the forest, certainly more tactical than battlefield 3. :-)

How demanding is the engine? What are your specs and your settings, if you don't mind sharing?
"For those of you worrying that your rig is not going to be able to play Arma 3 then worry no more, I don’t have the best rig but it’s also not the worst and on high settings I manage to stay at a constant 60 FPS which for my rig is very good because with Arma 2 and DayZ I only get around 30"

Its not as demanding as Arma 2 as the article says. I'm using i5 3570k @ 4.4ghz, 8gb RAM, Gtx 660Ti. Playing on high with Ultra textures at about an average of 45-55 fps. But to be fair the game does look good on any settings.
Should also note that on Arma 2 at about the same settings I would be getting between 20 and 30 fps.

Great stuff, thanks!

Just wanted to add a video from Sitestrafe, a guy whose opinion I dig way more than most reviews: http://youtu.be/ixnUPXSR9ZQ

Playing this already. I'm surprised that it is polished as hell compared to ARMA 1 and ARMA 2.
It's like, welcome back to Operation Flashpoint days. I like it a lot. It's probably the best shooter this year (unless Battlefield 4 will be released this year + Bioshock so far looks good) but still, it's GREAT.
The Ragdoll Effect in ARMA 3 is fantastic.

That SideStrafe guy is actually pretty good. I wish there were more reviewers like that around. People just aren't critical in general.
Something is either "Great" or "Less Great".
I just hope the new demands on the modding community won't slow them down even further. It can't be as bad as ArmA or ArmA II, but ultimately the campaign matters fuck all if you can't get mods out as quick and easy as possible.

So, I couldn't resist seeing it for myself, and hoooly shit!
It's practically unrecognizeable.
I've only spent like 5 minutes ingame, but the first thing I did was plop down a car to check the pathfinding... And it fucking went from A to B without problems! It even turned corners!
It seems like Bohemia have finally gotten off their asses and made a sequel to Operation Flashpoint. I'm really fucking excited now!

Aye, was playing this for hours last night on coop. It's brilliant fun, I find the helicopters flyable now! Just as a tip to you guys if you're getting low fps, turn post processing off and dial down object and terrain detail a bit.

Now you're making me really excited guys. My only problem is the graphics card, which is really weak by today's standards.
I've seen some gameplay footage and the thing looks too good for my old hag :(

This is the only thing i'm playing right now and it's a damn ALPHA and it's pretty much done in my opinion. Only graphical issues and minor bugs that you can fix with a patch remains.
ALPHA - can't believe this. I think it's just a PR stunt because I can't see Valve making excuses for this game.
WarZ was in Beta stage and it was closed for a Steam sales for a while because they released unfinished product.
If this game will have good campaign and if this thing will be fixed i'm not really sure If I will return for some Battlefield 4 action unless it is something different to 3.
I like ArmA 3 a lot and setting is great.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six_degrees_of_freedom - this game supports. that's revolution for FPS games.

I don't see what the heck Valve has to do with this, it isn't their game.
I bought the alpha, played it and it crashed within 20 minutes. I found the FPS manageable with everything cranked right up. I would start by reducing view distance first before your other settings, you might find the graphics load is a bit better.

Yeah it crashes every now and again for me too, apparently it might be Windows 8 related, but hey its still alpha. Yeah definitely tinker with the terrain detail first, that should have a huge impact on fps and also disabling Postprocessing (which increases fps drastically) makes the game look better anyway in my opinion. But anywho I think the game has a lot of potential, certainly one of my favourite games for quite some time, if the performance issues are sorted by release then I'll be playing this for many hours to come.

Actually it's performing much better than Arma2 and looks, sounds and plays so much better, it's hard to go back. I didn't encounter a crash on Win7.

I've been crash-free on Win7.
My only negatives so far is the crosshair and the recoil. The recoil basically just moves you up, it doesn't feel very intuitive, and the crosshair feels a lot less sophisticated than the classic OFP one. Which is weird, because the alpha feels like they're going for a more gamey feel than the previous games.
Nothing that couldn't be modified by the community though. The only other bummer is that it'll probably be a year until the really awesome mods start to appear, at least that's been the case in the past. Hopefully this gives everybody a headstart. With quality like that, I think the community looks set to actually grow this time.

Cross hair in ARMA? Turn that shit off. Head bot and motion blur just annoys me so I turn it off, too.
Game looked ok from my perspective, and I was running 40-50 FPS with everything on very high and highish 75% view distances. I think this will be one of those games where you can't have enough VRAM or CPU, either.
Anyway, the controls and responses felt more immediate and more fluid, making the game a bit more accessible I thought. Its not BF3 but it isn't advanced treacle battle simulator, either.

I've opted into the development build for Arma 3, had an update for the game on steam today and I am finally getting normal frame rates in city areas, no more 20fps in Agia Marina, right back up to 60! And a very consistent 60fps everywhere else, Looks like BI are on top of that anyway.
Its quite refreshing to be playing something slower than BF3 and CoD, makes the kills so much more satisfying and the team play (providing you get a good squad/team) is pretty unbeatable.

I had only one crash on Win7 in the tutorial because my save was corrupted somehow but I'm playing this thing a lot.
My only issue is the helicopter controls. While it's easy to fly, there are not enough options to make it slower or turn off that speed. I crashed million times because I could not stop that damn heli.
