   What's good guys?

   I think the game community as a whole can really be respected just as other people (like people who like sports) who enjoy their hobbies, but the one thing that is holding us back, is this stupid fanboy war.

   Now, with that being said, I detest sites like Eurogamer/Digital Foundry and Lens of Truth, because they're are so high on their own bullshit that really think they're doing the gaming community a service by telling us which version is the best over the other.

   But in reality, do gamers really care?

   I think gamers care and I don't think petty back and forth arguments like PS3 vs 360 are confined to gaming and gaming sites.

   You just have to go to other news sites, pick a political article that allows commenting and look for the same fanboyish arguments between why Labour is better than Tory and so on.

   Console wars is simply another topic for people to internet-argue about. I find it entertaining that some people will so blindly defend or attack something just because it isn't their preferred choice.

   Average joes on the street don't care. No.

   However I think the fanboy flames are often faned by the industry on purpose. Be it the websites that can generate traffic off of the back of a boisterus headline, or the platform game box that proudly displays in bold text the words EXCLUSIVLY FOR. Fanboyism can also generate word of mouth. I am sure most of us are known as "The Gamer" in our families/social circles, I know I am, and as such my recomondations can sell a lot of hardware/software. If, when asked, I said, "Bah, it doesn't matter what you buy, they are all the same anyways", somewhere a PR suit would die a little inside.

   So I think fanboyism is actualy something the industry sees as a tool. Something that can build passion and move product.

   As for people being assholes on the web over games...that has more to do with people being assholes then the actual games. There is zero reason to attack someone because they post "I don't like Sonys first party games, never have". And, yes there are dozens of other example statements too.

   But, what some fool on the interwebs enjoys playing, shouldn't effect your own enjoyment of something else. Or vica versa.

   On a personal note, I have grown very tired of it, and ultimatly of game websites over the past couple of years. In large part due to the robust display of fanboy zest. Weather it fits someones perception or not, I do actualy play alot more then Nintendo. And enjoying their hardware/software doesn't a raging lunitic/fanboy make me. And most importantly I should never have my personal char attacked because of the video games I do or don't like.

   But again some people, esp behind the anonomus cover of thier screens, tend to act like assholes.

   I believe that banter on such a level is why a lot of long time posters have fallen back to just lurking or stoped logging on all together.

   I don't think much can be done about it. If you are going to allow anyone, unrestricted acsess to post, your going to get all kinds. The more extreme posters will drive away more casual, less dedicated, and even the more moderate posters. Squeeky wheel, oil and all of that.

   There's a big difference between having a discussion about pros and cons, and simply being in love with a brand and not being able to tolerate any kind of criticism of it.

   I mean newsflash, no product is ever going to be ultimate, and no company is ever going to be infallible.

   I don't think there's any sense of proportion once those people join the fray, it's just blind misguided zealotry.

   Gaming as a whole isn't doing well right now, it's a second rate entertainment business, so it's really a bit like argueing about who is the least shit. I guess the same can be said for the Tory/Labour thing :P

   I find that the conversations I enjoy most on here are with people who are either a) platform agnostic, or b) have a preferred platform, but have the experience/maturity/perspective to see the various platforms for what they are, a personal choice about which console fits the individual best owing to the cost, the exclusives, the convenience and the experience.

   I think that the core of the problem is that certain posters are over-sensitive, and perceive some remark made about their chosen platform as an attack on themselves, and immediately go on the offensive, which is what keeps the cycle going.

   I can have a bit of friendly ribbing and banter with my PC gaming mates, because we each respect that the other guy has his reasons for choosing that platform. My mate knows that I just wanna plug my relatively inexpensive console into the telly and for that to be that, and I respect that he has more beautiful games, steam and low prices.

   It's not like there's anything wrong with you for choosing one or the other. They've all got something going for them. I just wish more posters would accept that and grow up a little...

   I think it just speaks to how video games can impact folks being such a personal experience. And how the internet spawns people that are never wrong. What did I read that said to disagree can show more intelligence or something?? Idk, anyway I have ribbed on a certain game or machine before. But I've never done it with the intent to attack another person personally, even knowing their position on their hobby. And it's not gonna go anywhere. Humility is hard to learn.

   I think it's fine that VG247 doesn't moderate. Generally speaking, random people can't handle being moderators. To me that just kinda creates an anti-community. There are a lot of castrated and sterilized communities out there to enjoy if you're into that.

   Just don't say anything that might disagree with mommy or daddy, or the banhammer will be imminent.

   Of course some comments are gonna be terrible. Some people just are terrible. That's reality.

    Has anyone ever gone to gamrconnect forums? One of the most moderated gaming site on the net but definitely the best one in terms of discussions, site layout, mods and so on. I hope vg247 forums become like that. Present format is not very intuitive.

    Also, I think it depends, statistically speaking. This gen is one where where all consoles got a supportive crowd, so everyone has significant supporters. But if next gen has only one "winner", people will tend to gravitate towards it, others will just lose their "fanboy" support.

    When I was about 12 years old I remember hanging outside with a couple of friends. We had been fixing our BMX style bikes for the last run of the summer/fall before day light savings kicked in and we all had no time to play outside after school because it got dark earlier. Any how the conservation landed on video games and who had what. I of course had all the consoles minus the Saturn at the time but I remember and I'll never forget what happened next. It would change my thinking on video games for the rest of my life.

    Two of my friends only had one current gen console at that time PS1 and N64 and they both had one last gen console too. The SNES and SEGA Genesis. Before I knew it these guys were down each others throats about which one was better. It went from you're a fag because thats gay to them actually fist fighting. They never spoke again after that day. I was forced to choose which friend I could hang out with every day. Anyway to make this boring story short I found myself hanging out with the one who had the PS1 because PS1 had better games and we traded games back and forth everytime we got something new. The kid with the N64 was stingy and didn't want to trade (even though I let him borrow many times) so I said screw him.

    Anyway moral of the story is I had never heard about a console war ever before these two. As I got older it became even more evident that this console war thing was real. Certain kids wouldn't hang out with you, certain groups were bigger than others (poor Saturn kids :D ) and you just had to choose a side. I chose PlayStation cause they had the best games. It was a no brainer.

    I had stopped watching sports because Michael Jordan retired and the Bulls dispersed so I couldn't be a fanboy of that of medium again. Football is "GAY" and baseball is boring. Couldn't be a fanboy over celebrities (although I masturbated over Brittany Spears for quite some time in my teenage years....who didn't right). Lets see couldn't be a fanboy of anime because swapping pokemon cards in class/lunch was just not cool, and if any girl saw you do that then your hopes of losing your virginity before the age of 25 was out the window :(

    The only cool, safe, non-gay things were video games and I put a lot of passion behind it and my team I was cheering for which was PlayStation. There were many good times in my life as well as dark times but no matter what my PlayStation was there with me the whole time. The games it had over the years made me the person I am today and the PS2 was better than having actual real friends thats how awesome of a machine it was. So I'll answer your question Mike W with this response:

    I've never seen gamers beat up a rival console fanboy to an inch of their lives like those soccer hooligans over in Europe do like Manchester United. I never seen a fanboy out in the middle of NYC turning over peoples cars because it has a Boston Red Sox logo sticker in the window. I'll admit gamers who are passionate over plastic and electric wiring are a bit dumb to be slinging personal insults across the internet, but thats the extent it goes to normally. It never goes to extreme circumstances like Sport fanatics, retards who wear a certain vest and drive a certain type of motorcycle, or degenerates killing each other over what color shirt you're wearing (blue or red).

    Gamers have every right to be passionate about the console war because we take pride in what we invest our time in. Its no different than being a fanboy of your children vs someone elses. Your brand of car vs other brands. You choose what you like and you back it up if you think its that damn awesome. Plain and simple as that. So yes we care......or at least I do :)

    I think fanboys take a different approach.

    They're just so incredibly annoying that they make people actually hurt themselves instead.

    My forehead has really met with this desk a few times over the years.

    But hey yeah, at least you don't kill everybody and steal their pets. I guess that could be considered noble restraint in a galaxy far far away. Go us!

    Sure, I agree there needs to be a level of scope. And just because the world of gaming isn't on the same level as world wide proliferation of nukes doesn't mean that the issues inside that world of gaming don't also have credience. Esp to those that follow such things. So yes scope is important.

    But I believe that often times we have(even in this community) cases of cyberbulling over .... games. Again not exactly the same level of issue or importance as starving childern, but still an issue.

    The problem I think is people in the internet want to show their opinions, but most of them show it in the way "I think like this, and you should think like me, or I will bug you forever for being stupid" instead of how it should be "I think like this, lets see how you think and then I throw more arguments to support how I think".

    There's competitive arguments in any topic someone is passionate about. People argue over sports, politics and music. Sometimes it becomes agressive, here in Brazil people die in soccer games because of rivalry between two teams. But this example is extreme. Videogames are still young and what we see right now could evolve to mindless fanatism someday.

    I honestly don't think there is any bias either way with Digital Foundry. I know people really hate them for what they say, and sometimes it's down to graphical quality one side, smooth frame rate the other (they usually prefer the frame rate if the quality is negligible) but PS3 fans get all bent out of shape at them rather than at the developers or even Sony who made difficult hardware (which they basically admitted when annoucing the PS4)

    The first time I experienced true fanboyism was during the first Xbox launch. I bought a Xbox the day it was released and was first in Line, actually the only one in line to get one. The guy at the electronics Boutique selling it to me was telling me what a dumb decision I was making, and preceded to tell me why I should be buying a PS2 instead. When I told him i'm buying it anyway, he rolled his eyes at me and said its your money.

    Several months later I was in a blockbuster looking at the Xbox games I could rent and a guy walked up to me asking me if I had an xbox. I said yes and he said "I have a PS2" and I was like "that's cool" and he looks at me says Xbox sucks get a PS2. I told him I am happy with my Xbox and he wrinkles his nose at me and asks me why i bought and it and liked it. I explained my reasons and he says he would never buy anything other than a playstation. I asked him why and his answer was fanboy loyalty, no specific reasons really.

    I remember when 2k games was making Football games and there was this fanboy reaction to madden vs their football games, when 2k's games were actually better at the time. I watched one guy give someone an evil eye when he said madden wasnt as good.

    I understand why people prefer certain brands or products, but don't understand why they chastise others for making a different choice.

    When I was in elementary school and had a Colecovision, we used to make fun of the kids with Atari 2600's and Intellivision. As long as there is more than one company making hardware, there will be competition amongst its fans. It's natural.

    I do think there are certainly some groups and people that are more annoying than others, and I do tend to call them out for it, when their perception of things is tainted by their love of a particular brand name.

    That said, I have no particular brand loyalty. I go where the games I like are. Of course, to some people, the second you say anything positive about a Sony product, you're a fanboy.

    When I was a kid, I had a ZX spectrum and later a Nintendo, my friends had BBC micros and later a Sega. It was great, we all got the best of every world... There was no fanboy bullshit then, just playing as many games as we could on each other's systems...

    I agree, when I was younger I had almost every system growing up and even though my friends and I got into disputes over certain titles, it never got to the point of name calling and degrading someone because of what system they own.

    But nowadays the same can't be said for these new gamers.

    I never said there was anything wrong with it, I'm simply saying do gamers really care about the trivial things they find in their conclusions?

    For example, if I was to go by same logic as you and believe everything what DF and LoT states, 85% of my games will be on my 360 and very little on my PS3 and PC.
