Maybe they were worried about the price?

Looks like they got WiiU'd.
Gotta love the first comment:
"Like most things, I'm blaming David Cage for this."

@Woe,
I know you like to be a newsguy on the forums, but I think you should check the details before posting useless info (like those fake ads).
Sony stocks dipped like 1.5% (-21), that's nothing out of the blue.Posted 2 months ago # -
But by not showing the console itself, Sony failed to quash the circulating rumor that the PlayStation 4 may not even include an optical drive — meaning all games would have to be streamed or downloaded to the device, thus wiping out the market for PlayStation game disks sold at retail outlets.
“They led a lot of people to conclude that there is no optical drive,” said Michael Pachter of Wedbush Securities, who added that “if they get rid of the drive, they are dead.” http://www.marketwatch.com/story/sony-talks-but-doesnt-show-playstation-4-2013-02-20

@Splattered
There is no country that has good enough infrastructure to support doing a download only system. By that logic all we know is there is a new dual shock controller and that it could be a tablet.

That last post was taken wholly from the linked article (I hadn't really considered the practicality of if there were only DD for games, was more looking into what might have caused the hubbub woe posted about after what I felt was an overall positive presentation - but thanks for that info :))
vg's staff must have been tied up, since that source got an apparently very disappointed IGN EIC in to talk about the Sony show. That marketwatch page says Sony's US-traded stock is up 14 in after hours, btw.

@ Splattered
See there is an optical drive and as expected its Blu-Ray.

you think they are going to get rid of the BD drive after it nearly cost them last gen and the PS3 was the only reason it won over HD-DVD?! i swear you people get dumb by the day
Posted 2 months ago # -
BD Drive is confirmed. I like how most stupid game sites like GBiz, gamasutra and others and so called analysts spout shit without even reading the official specs.

The press release from which Brenna took the information about the hardware that she included in the article was only posted after the conference. added 45 mins or so ago.
Posted 2 months ago # -
THere was also leaked info that stated as much then as I said no country has the bandwidth or infrastructure to support download only system. 1+1 = 2?

@Dragon246
"I know you like to be a newsguy on the forums"You've really not spotted the pattern? Woe is the Sony bad new and MS good news guy, anything else is ignored mysteriously.
Posted 2 months ago # -
Not to mention this might relate to the sale of M3 which was possibly poorly timed and nothing at all to do with the PS4 but still, when the market opens that could all change.

1.5 is not a nose dive. Calm down Woe.
Posted 2 months ago # -
Woe grow up.....you're little hidden agendas towards this organization is becoming annoying like that Erthzaus dickhead.
Posted 2 months ago # -
You're right Dave, but it's also not the response you want to a big reveal.
It amounts to a financial golf clap.
I think the fact that Sony wasn't specific about a lot of their services might have something to do with it. If they had gone "The playstation service suite will be fully monetized" I think there would've been some kind of jump.
Xbox Live is uniquely profitable for Microsoft.
Posted 2 months ago # -
I guess noone expects that the Gaikai connectivity will be free, so it will be profitable for Sony too. But it would've been to early to talk about monetization and final pricing considering it was just a reveal, or kind of a teaser, don't you think?
Posted 2 months ago # -
And its up 12 points on premarket position so I would say that the money men are looking at the PS4 as a small part of Sony the company and are punishing them for something else. Please remember that Sony have a lot of fingers in a lot of pies.
-> http://www.google.co.uk/finance?q=NYSE:SNEEdit: Ok, actually its down 22 points in premarket now but we'll find out in 10 minutes what its all about
Posted 2 months ago # -
It depends on how you look at it, I guess. Maybe Sony did count on a little slap on the wrist.
But then I don't get why the presentation started so formulaic. I actually stopped watching because the great feeling I got from the intro was dashed by Andrew House walking on stage and starting to just mindlessly execubabble.
That's not what I came for as someone looking for information and entertainment.
So I mean, who were they really after?
@SamoanSpider That's also very true. It could well be that analysts had their eyes elsewhere, and Sony slumped for something very different. It's just the obvious choice for us as gamers to assume it's PS4.

Well, look at that. The stock has actually gone up.
Feel like an idiot yet Woe?
Posted 2 months ago # -
Whilst Woe is undeniably an idiot for jumping on this, I have to say what Edge referred to is actually an overnight high, not the actual stock value. A bit of a misfire on their part too. The price is currently 14.12 and thats down from 14.35 when I spoke up earlier.

Hardly a nose dive though is it :)
Posted 2 months ago # -
No way, christ a 1.5-2.5% drop can happen because an executive farts in public
Posted 2 months ago # -
It's not too shabby considering the cosmic size of the Sony Corporation, but like Destructoid points out, last night it wasn't exactly what you wanted to see after a reveal.
They absolutely jumped the gun on that headline though, and it really wasn't another WiiU. It was just the first thing that came to my mind.
Posted 2 months ago # -
Bulls***! their stock actually climbed.
Posted 2 months ago # -
After trading ended, yes. The post is from last night champ.
Posted 2 months ago # -
But to be specific L_Gravy, it fell a bit, climbed a fraction and then fell a bit more. Not a lot as the OP suggested but its worth double checking my link to their stock price above.
Posted 2 months ago # -
One thing you should learn about stock prices is that events such as last night are built in before the fact. It is not unusual to see prices fall after an announcement - you get cases in which a bank announces a big profit, and the shares drop later that day as investors take their profits.

Do you think it might be because some idiot Sony executive implied they would not launch their console in Europe in 2013 along with the rest of the world? I mean can you think of any other company marketing high value consumer products who have ever voluntarily decided to reduce their potential market by a half?? You might understand if Sony were reluctant to offer PS4 in say, North Korea in 2013, but, Europe? You don't think offering a product to a region home to over 700 million people is a good idea?
