If there's no witnesses of something, except you (suppose you know the truth), you lie and the truth will never exist until you give up hiding it.

I would like to ask another question regarding the "truth". If you "hide" the truth, does it count as lying?
e.g. Let's say I witnessed a kid in my school making a graffiti in the backyard and the principal and school council get furious and want to know who is the culprit. Me and that kid only know the truth. So, if I don't step forward and confess who did it, am I lying? I believe I'm at least an abettor...
