Sorry for the cheesy headline lol.....But with the imminent arrival of the PS4,im pinning all my hopes on this console because i think this generation has became stale very fast, dont get me wrong its had its wow moments but i feel as those that most games were just copies nothing really original about them (if you know what i mean) like everyone was just doing the same thing but with little extras put on top.... i dont know... what im trying to say is this generation of consoles got boring fast and im just hoping for more originality in the next one
Hope.....is all i have left

@V_fyfe_V sadly you are part of the mass of 'old school' gamers that really can't see what is good about this generation of gaming, which I consider the best since 1999 - 2000 (PS1 and N64), it was full of original games even though sequels were being produced to the edge of the companies' pockets. Triple-A examples in no particular order:
- Bioshock
- Demon Souls/Dark Souls
- LittleBigPlanet (Father of Play, Create and Share!)
- Fallout 3 (and New Vegas), both introducing new gaming experiences in Real-Time Combat RPG games
- The Walking Dead, Sam and Max and other Telltale Games award-winning franchises
- Heavy Rain
- Mass Effect (AS A WHOLE)Of course there are more, I'm just stating BIG names that appeared only at this current generation, and there are tons of sequels who migrated from the previous gen that added ton of beautiful new ideas and gameplay, though they aren't completely original by themselves. BUT the aspect I most loved wasn't the AAA franchises, but the Indie titles. Some were inspired by AAA games yet added new original ideas:
- Super Meat Boy and Biding of Isaac
- Hotline Miami
- The first of the Slender Games
- Actually, Amnesia was pretty much unique too, not entirely original
- Castle Crashers
- Journey, Flower, etc
- even goddamn Garry's Mod and other Source mods!As I said, not entirely original, since some were inspired by classics and even 'neoclassic' games. Originality doesn't always mean success, I mean FULL TIME ORIGINALITY:
- Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts
- Tony Hawk games that used that terrifying plastic board
- Most Kinect games (Specially a known tank-based game, tisc tisc)
- Blur, somewhat original, and sure is terrificI really hate when people talk trash about the new gen they currently live in, this happened before with all sorts of groups (music, TV, films) and to see it happening to Video Gaming too is depressing, but hey, it is a cycle that ALWAYS happens, even those who deny also saw people bashing on the PS2 when it was launched.
All I want to make people see is that new things go and come, somehow humans can always come with original ideas, most are denied, but a high percentage is seen and shared, that what I love about our species and gaming is a proof of that. But where is originality is lack of originality too, no doubt, although saying that every new thing is bad and unoriginal is simply annoying. I loved this gen, the next one will be better even though I have no current plans for acquiring Orbis or Durango, but people do change, and the ones who complain now will soon say "Hey remember the Wii, 360 and PS3? BEST. CONSOLES. EVER."
AGAIN I'M SORRY FOR LACK OF EXAMPLES, I ONLY GRABBED THE TRULY RELEVANT ONES JUST AS, well... EXAMPLES. There are tons of Original titles this gen and one can name hundreds, sadly I could not remember most...

I just think the Japanese contributions to this gen has been weak, meaning that the west has just been doing what it does over and over because it's safe. We've had some amazing games this gen, but the PS1/PS2 eras were more interesting overall.
Mostly though, the business side has creapt in too much this gen, with dlc, online passes and all the other bullshit we've had to put up with. Gaming lost it's joys and became a bit of a chore.

@Eddie Rodrigues i understand what you are saying but i did say it had its wow moments i guess what im saying to is that their was no game that made me want to play it twice ( not a big fan of multiplier ) i think that some times online can spoil a game.....so their is times it isnt necessary

@Eddie Rodrigues,
"
- Mass Effect (AS A WHOLE)"Just shows how mediocre games this generations were.
- Bioshock - is nothing like System Shock and it is pretty much an okay corridor shooter with some non-linear elements.
- Demon's Souls/Dark souls - while good games had a lot of issues with statistics.
- LittleBigPlanet - Before LBP there were games with Play Create And share status. They existed on the PC with MODS that you could create and share. That was done before them long time ago.
- Fallout 3 - Are you nuts? The worst RPG in this gen. The shittiest sequel that destroyed everything that was good about Fallout 1 and 2. Real time combat RPG was before Fallout 3 in F2 where it was actually right. Where V.A.T.S. system actually worked.
- The Walking Dead and - Heavy Rain - Have you ever played Syberia games or old David cage game called Fahrenheit? No? Then go away.
The Walking Dead is simple adventure game and nothing more to that.- Mass Effect (AS A WHOLE) - No comment. A shooter with abilities and simple dialog mechanic with a story from other books and movies.
In other words, you started playing in this generation. Congratulations for discovering new genres. Sorry, but these examples were hilarious at best and really poor. No offence.

@Erthazus is spot on with what he is saying, i think the ideas were their with this gen but the excution of these games were diabolical they were all just so blah, i would be sitting their just thinking " is this nearly finished" and game shouldn't be like that.
Oh but the games i did enjoy this gen were the uncharted series and peace walkerPosted 3 months ago # -
Portal.
Get over yourselves, fucktards.
PS: Glad somebody mentioned Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts. Viva PiƱata is worth a mention in that particular category, too.

@V Comments like these always baffle me. Looking past some of the vagueness of your statement ("most games were just copies, nothing really original about them" well, yeah. I agree. "Most" games suck, just the same as most books and most movies suck. There are a great number of games produced, so yeah, the majority is bound to be underwhelming, but that doesn't detract from the dozens of great games released this gen.) I'm going to assume you're saying that you felt this gen didn't have a lot to offer (if that's NOT what you're saying, then my apologies) on which I have to call bullshit.
Without getting into another silly internet arguement about a lack of "originality" in games (depending on how strictly you define originality, you could make the arguement that absolutely nothing is original, everything borrows from, is influenced by, and rearranges what has come before it. You could argue the English language isn't even original, if you wanted) I'm genuinely curious to see a list of these innumerable original games from generations past that outnumber the current gen by such a wide margin that gamers are getting depressed at a time when they still have so many great games on the horizon.
Really not trying to be a dick here, and not directing this all at you personally V_fyfe either, I just really don't understand this particular brand of melancholy. I think any gamer that seriously feels this gen is a letdown may just be getting older, more jaded, and hasn't yet come to terms with the fact that gaming just isn't as fun as it used to be. If that's the case, I'm sorry to say, but a new gen isn't going to bring back the excitement you felt when you fired up your first few consoles. It's likely going to be more of the same, some great, truly innovative new ideas, but mostly crap in a prettier package.

There is an oversaturation with Android, iOS, XBLA, PSN, indie PC games, digital only releases, PS3, X360, PSP, 3DS, DS, Wii, tablet and smartphones games. No one has really so much time and a overview of all good games. This is the worst generation of all.

@Digital Bamboo don't worry dude i know your not being a dick lol....i know what your getting at but i did say that this gen had its wow moments but mostly everybody tried to emulate someone else's wow moments instead of trying to have their own.
Posted 3 months ago # -
An "oversaturation"? So what, too many choices? Too many different ways to play? Too much variety? I fail to see how an abundance of competing platforms is a negative.
"This is the worst generation of all." Really? Come on. I think that's being a bit dramatic. Play many games from the 1st and 2nd gen of gaming do you? The major crashes of '77 and '84 weren't really a big deal? Fall of the arcades?
The 5th gen saw a huge amount of innovation, no doubt, but it was also wrought with growing pains (new tech being felt out, experimented with, and roughly hewn into something playable). Goldeneye 007 & FFVII are two of my all-time favorite games, and massively influential...but have you tried to play them lately? They haven't aged well.
Early 3D was pretty crude, and has not stood the test of time as well as what came before(16-bit), or after (PS2 etc).
The 5th gen was also rife with crap failed systems: Sega CD, 3DO, CD-i, Jaguar, Virtual Boy.
Not saying 5th was the worst, but in 10 years I can easily see myself still playing games from this gen and enjoying them...can't say the same for the 5th gen (or 1st, 2nd or 3rd).@ V_fyfe Fair enough man, but true innovation is pretty rare.

@Digital Bamboo yeah but i bet you said that about snes games & n64 games, i still love to play games from pervious gen just for nostalgic reasons what they represent & this gen for me didnt have the games that made me think " im gunna play this again in 5 years"
Posted 3 months ago # -
Nah, I've never stopped loving SNES games, & I'm playing a N64 game right now. But I don't see myself returning to the NES or PS/64 games much in the future. I guess we differ on this gen, because I think it's loaded with games worth replaying, (and I have yet to catch up to even 2011).
Well, Keep Hope Alive. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7CYzc1naaw

@Bamboo
Did you know about this game?
http://www.amazon.com/Gabrielles-Ghostly-Groove-Nintendo-3DS/dp/B004UMAPQSNo? Why? Even I didnt and we have a 3DS.

@Erthazus yea you are part of the mass of gamers called casuals, but more like a troll ^^
@V_fyve_V all of those games were REPLAYABLE to the edge, mainly Heavy Rain and Dark Souls, and THAT WAS A TRULY BRILLIANT GAME AND REPLAYABLE TO THE MAX.
Nevertheless what I sense that @All are saying is: Look at the games in the 80s and 90s, that were original. BECAUSE THAT WAS THE BEGINING OF THE GAMING INDUSTRY. It is exactly like saying: Hmmm, Astro Boy is the most orginal anime ever, that is because it is the first anime ever :D
@Erthazus once again, LBP was the father of play create and share, Modding is a tool created by talented producers and not all are shitty, you can't deny that the existence of this game was a true revolution
Mass Effect, I said, AS A WHOLE, I meant the idea, or rather the concept of bringing up the player's choices to actually make a difference, although it wasn't the game that most give that to the players.
Dark Souls has no flaws, even the glitches are great.
And Fallout 3 was one of the best RPGs in history, not far behind on his younger brother New Vegas.
All the other games, that is your opinion
Oh and "You started playing in this gen" is a really clever comment coming from someone that hates video games like you and know nothing about OPINIONS. That said you can say that I started enjoying games this gen, because frankly after the PS2 I lost all the desires and hopes I had in games. Unlike the PS1 and N64, the BIGGEST consoles, this gen was formed by the BEST consoles, try using your brain for once and catch the meaning of those two superlatives.
This gen was terrific, though don't let the nostalgia ruin everything for you on the next gen like all you did on this one.

@Krazy
No, I didn't know about that game.Why? Probably because I don't own a 3DS & I'm not a 9-year-old girl.
What's your point?
