Was considering launch line-ups over the weekend and how they are generally a bit of a damp squib. You get maybe one stand out title if you are lucky and a load of solid but ok titles + the usual dross. It's very rare you get a line-up with 3 stand-out must buy titles. If anyone could launch with that then that could really give them an advantage.

So the question is what would have you chomping at the bit to get a console on launch, or what would be a real dream line-up. NextBox, PS4 and retrospectively for WiiU?

Wii-U - Well I already have one, but it shoulda launched with ...
3D Mario
Zelda
Something new designed around the controller

PS4 - would be hot cakes if it launched with ...
Uncharted 4
Gran Turismo 6
Soul Sacrifice (updated from the Vita game)

(On personal level put an Everybodies Golf out on PS4 and I'm in)

NextBox - would have me chomping at the bit with ...
Halo 5
Forza 5
New IP RPG

If that 'new IP RPG' was something from Mistwalker, I'd jump the fence and buy an Xbox in a heartbeat.

It would be lovely if the new consoles launched with a title from thetgamecompany. I don't know what they're working on now but the timing might fit?

A new Gran Turismo that actually has a useable interface would be great. And a new MGS would be great (main reason I ended up with a PS3 this gen was because of MGS4). Still prefer 3 though, unsurprisingly.

Lots of possibilities that's for sure.

I think timing wise a number of those I put down are really non-starters. GT6 and Forza 5 are the ones which could be possibilities - though I'd put more money on Forza 5 as Turn 10 just seem to be able to deliver on time. Polyphony don't seem to have the management to do that.

I should also point out that the 3 games I chose for each system were providing a balance to the releases too. No point in MS launching with Halo 5 *and* Gears 4 for example.

What are Mistwalker working on currently? Wikipedia and their own home page seems to indicate a shift towards mobile gaming after The Last Story.

At least for ps4 lineup, I am expecting games from-
1. Sucker Punch
2. Naughty Dog
3. Studio Japan (not only polyphony, its a big studio)
4. Guerrilla
5. Evolution
6. Santa Monica (they have a GIGANTIC 12 games in development since last year)
6. Ready At Dawn
7. SOE games (Planetside 2 is all but confirmed imo, maybe even everquest next)
8. Quantic Dream game (a very long shot but one can hope !)
And some 3rd party games..

Remember, most of 1st party devs are eerily quiet since 2011. I don't give a damn for most ips, anything from these studios will be great.

For 720,
1. Black Tusk new ip (shooter)
2. Epic games new ip
3. Crytek (Ryse or whatever its called)
4. Free maps for next COD (Surprise!)
5. Forza

For PS4 agree with Gran Turismo 6 and Uncharted 4, but the third one should be a new MGS.

For the nextbox Gears of War with some new features (it's getting old for me), new Forza and maybe a new (but a good one) Fable.

New consoles rarely launch with super large sequels simply because the userbase isn't there to justify the cost. Don't expect anything particularly ground breaking with the PS4 or the 720 in the early months. That stuff comes later.

Pure pie-in-the-sky here, but a great Nextbox launch line up for me would be:

1 - Banjo N&B 2 - With a more balanced mix of platforming and vehicles, and very slightly less bouncy physics.

2 - Alan Wake 2 – Make it semi-openworld, with skill progression and crafting.

3 - A new FPS IP. I’d like a comedy physics/voxel-based shooter. Bright and fun, class-based, not too fast or twitchy, 4-player splitscreen, buildable/destructible environments (to a certain extent). Imagine if you rolled an eighth of Timesplitters in a Camberwell Carrot stuffed with Minecraft. I’d smoke that.

There’s plenty enough Halo, Forza and Gears goodness available at the moment or soon. 2 years until the next iterations would be ideal IMO, once devs have got to grips with the new hardware a little.

Biggest thing I want is a new funky controller. Central touch screen like the WiiU controller but with 2 detachable motion wands would be perfect. The twin-stick is a very outdated design now, and is seriously limiting the type of games that can be achieved on consoles. The WiiU kicked off the next gen in the right way by not just rehashing the 7th gen with more power.

For the WiiU I agree with DrDamn. A 3D Mario, new Zelda and something unique that makes good use of the controller would have sold it to me. Will still sell it to me when they eventually come out.

If MS and Sony are stupid enough to stick with a stagnant old vanilla twin-stick design then there’s a good possibility the WiiU could become my primary console. Radial menus, multiple button combinations and the lack of a pointing device are making increasingly more complex games become increasingly more cumbersome to play.

I agree with Mike here. Why put out your big guns when the install user base is so small?

I expect all system to have a crawl post launch. Unless something really shocking pricewise happens.

I highly disagree that you don't need big ip for launch titles. I would agree if you don't have any competition like the Wii-u did, but as the Orbis, next Xbox, and wii-u's 2nd year software offerings will be on the table, launching without a big IP would be a huge mistake.

If I was going to buy a new console, and had console 1 with mediocre titles, console two with mediocre titles, and console 3 with Mario or Zelda, i know which one i would be more interested in.

With that linked in profile talking four new IP's for MS, im sure at least one or two will be launch titles. I'd love to see Fable 4 but since they just released Fable:The journey last year, I don't that will happen.
They could possible have a Halo2: Anniversary or Halo 4: improved but unlikely. Killer instinct is probably wishful thinking but id love that.

No, I imagine its going to be Ryse, a kinect sports like title from Rare, and one or 2 new IP, and maybe a few third party exclusives or timed exclusives. It's possible we could see Dragon Age III, Fallout 4, Alan wake 2, GTA5: enhanced, Gears:Judgement enhanced, Bungie's and the guys who left Infinity Ward new title at E3, but im doubting those will be launch titles for 2013. Launch would be a great time for EA, Ubisoft, and Activision to get a big new franchise in as well.

Im sure MS has at least one really spectacular title because if they dont then Sony will..... I just hope that big title isnt third party, I hope they have at least one first party title that will wow us.

Personally, Id love to see Killer Instinct, Alan wake 2, Fallout 4, and one big surprise from MS! last E3 had no Megaton's, I am hoping for alot of them this year.

Also keep in mind that whatever launches with the new systems, gamewise, will prolly also be out on the old systems. Esp if it is a 3rd party multi plat game. Just like last gen. You big names and big sellers like CoD, Skylanders, Madden, FIFA, NFS, and almsot anything you can think of that comes out in yearly or semi yearly installments will prolly be on everything. Much of the WiiU launch line up was stuff that you could get elsewhere.

The fact is the old systems have huge sales potential for games. The new ones don't. You guys are thinking like gamers. Ironicly it doesn't revolve around you. You are just a tool to make money with. The companies will make the call, and they will be looking to maximise their investments. Don't be shocked if the PS3 and XB360 don't out sell their new counter parts two or more years after release(unless MS/Sony just shut down production). Alot will depend on the rate of uptake of the new systems. Both will have decent launches, it is what happens after that that will be the thing to watch. I think.

They don't don't need mega ton IP. Most early adapters will just buy what it is out.

I don't plan on getting a Wii U for at least 2 years, or PS720 for 5, but if any of them launched with the following line-ups, I would seriously reconsider.

Wii U:

A new top-down Zelda game.
A collaborative Bioware/Retro Studios Star Wars game in which the Wiimote is used as a lightsaber.
Monolith Soft RPG.

PS4:

A Red Dead prequel (Marston's gang days).
A darker, open-world Final Fantasy game in which you can decapitate enemies with a sword while riding a Chocobo, customize and race airships.
Uncharted 4.

720:

Bladerunner: The Game
An exclusive Indiana Jones game on par with Uncharted.
Half-Life 3

The idea behind a really good launch line-up is the extra money it makes you indirectly though. You aren't going to get exclusive AAA third party stuff, but you should be able to put some off your own big guns out. It won't make as much as it would in initial sales compared to releasing a year or so later. It will get your console flying of the shelves though, and that can have bigger returns in the long run. Particularly with Sony and Microsoft being in direct competition at launch.

I just want good game without stupid linear corridors, health regeneration, "hiding behind walls mechanic", AUTO-AIM, brown pallete - I will buy that system at launch if someone won't have that.

but no, consoles and it's community is the biggest barrier to all of this.

Actually I want Gran Turismo 6 that is done right and maybe something from Naughty Dog with The Last Guardian. Maybe something from Kojima. I'm not sold on Ground Zeroes so far.

Everything else will be on the PC where games are much better anyway.

PC is shit, and so is Steam which still doesn't have a proper game invite/mute functions.

You should educate yourself with the Xbl and the way game invites work there. It's not that hard to figure out it's nothing like the shitty Steam. You can buy an iPhone in Africa, doesn't mean it's as easy to do as in France.. Really an idiot, aren't you?

the same way as in Games for Windows Live that no one uses to this day. I'm not a moron to use the system that is full of clusterfuck and without decent customization. XBL doesn't have servers list, decent library search, not enough settings, no Steam cloud, you can't even choose the location of servers you wish to download from. But it's only for you who is a fan of closed system and can't figure out what to do in it. You are stupid and everyone n VG247 knows it.

The AI is proven to be one of the best in the genre since the original Halo, the graphics, shadows, animations and everything were pretty much the best for their time, especially compared to square faced abominations from Quake (Arena).

'Clusterphak' implies poorly working service, a la PSN or lack of easy navigation (like Steam). You really are an idiot, aren't you. Follow the advice and get an ABC book.
