PS brand has been downsized this gen due to the fact that Sony committed the cardinal sin of letting tech taking precedence over pricing. However I believe they were able to gain back a lot of the disgruntled customers by correcting their mistakes quickly and introducing amazing services like ps plus.
However early years of ps3 still represents a low for PS brand from which IMO the brand is still recovering from.
Its in this climate that Sony is releasing the next PlayStation. And frankly, it seems that they have taken the lessons to heart here....
Now history class over, now my opinion on ps4 -
PS4 (or whatever its called) is shaping up (according to leaks)to be amalgam of everything Sony learnt from past 3 gens. It focuses on gaming only and other applications rightly featured as add-ons.
Mind you, even RAM situation isn't that bad. According to rumors, ms is allocating 3gb out of 8 for OS, whereas ps4 only saves .5gb for it. So for games, 720 will have 5 GB ddr3 whereas ps4 will have 3.5 of gddr5. So each system will have its own advantages.
Now, ps4 announcement is eminent on 20th Feb. Heres what I think will be announced at that-
1. System itself (almost final form)
2. Few blockbuster games
3. Maybe Bigfest
4. The controller (thankfully with no 2nd screen)
Sony has already taken the correct step IMO to only focus on hardware and not add-ons that no one asked for. Now the only missing piece of the puzzle is pricing. If ps4 is priced that the same price as that of 720, then it could do very very well indeed, as ps3 will still manage to outsell 360 even though it was priced substantially higher throughout this gen Even though MS can significantly undercut Sony if they want to, they wont IMO as like apple, they now want profits on everything.
I don't factor in ninty here because they are following their own path and I don't see them hurting sales of 720 and ps4. Although it may happen if Sony and ms commit the fallacy of projecting wiiu as competitor to ps4 and 720 and not current gen. Even big 3rd party pubs like EA think that next-gen hasn't started yet, even though technically wiiu is next-gen.
At the end, everything depends on pricing, as that's the biggest reason why ps3 had a lackluster start, and that's the only thing that
So whats your opinion? Do you see Ps4 as the culmination of the redemption that started after the low of ps3 launch, or do you think it will fall by the wayside. Last but not the least, what do you expect from 20th Feb and what are you most excited about ps4. Please post measured responses.
