I went into a store and looked at an iTouch 4 on display. The device was NOT connected to the internet, yet the store helper was able to set up turn-by-turn navigation using maps.
Bought one, took it home and tried to replicate it. Didn't work.
How did he do it?
Probably capable of offline caching by the journey and they have a few journeys cached for demonstration purposes.
Just get the tomtom gps plug in and app

Yeah, sadly this is indicative of what Apple stores do to reel you in. Shiny things on stands with quickfire demo's to run when needed. You get it home and the sheen wears off quickly. Well it did for me anyway and I was really excited to own a 'cool' product. This is said after having bought 3 separate products from them and all are now long gone and replaced with competitor products.
