Hi I'm looking at buying a new graphics card for my pc.
Current spec:
I7 950 @3.4ghz
12gb of ram
120gb ssd
460gtx
I want to be able to max games at 1080p, I've been looking at Amd 7870, 7950 and GeForce 660ti
Which is best value for performance?
I can't answer that question like others can. But I did just buy a video card for my PC. the one thing that I was blown away with was the power suplly requirments of the various cards. I have a low power house. And we often have a TV/cable and two PCs going at same time. I literaly had to filter thru pages of cards to get one that fit my needs.
Well I had the same exact card and I updated to the same model so I would say the 660 ti obviously. I can play all games at 1080P and can run them at optimal speeds (about 50 FPS) for games like Farcry 3. Well worth the amount you pay for it.
I have i7 2600K OC to 4.2ghz and 600ti and works very well. Crysis 2 chokes a bit on Ultra settings, but everything else plays great. If that might bother you, spend the little extra and get a gtx670.
I want to jump up to a 680 soon
I'm also in the state where i wawnt to upgrade my graphics card. I can tell you that i'm waiting for Nvidia to release their 700 series graphics card, which is expected to be around march.
Nvidia take the piss releasing cards, but I had an ATI 4850 before and the drivers were bad.

That's for the UK, there's a US version too if that's your region.
They're calling the 7870 the best card in its price range. Nvidia don't seem to feature in the mid-range at all. You have to go up to a £300 670ti before Nvidia are best value for money.

Yeah i heard you can over clock the 7870 to get 7950 stock results.
Instead of getting one graphics, try grabbing two 1GB or even 2GB powerful Cards. It gives a better overall gaming experience

I haven't benchmarked all my games yet, though Skyrim is 60 FPS at Ultra and GTA IV with ENB goes 60 too.
Shouldn't double your GPU especially since it only gives you a 10% increase in exchange for doubling your power consumption and heat and most games don't work properly for 2 GPUs. Just not worth it.
@Eddie my 660ti can do that as well. For the price of 2 560 you can get a 660 ti and have some dough left over.
Went and bought a 7870 from amazon, but it's a 7870 based on the same die as 7950 with one clusted turned off and memory bus of 256, instead of 384bit, but at 1080p theres about 2% difference between the actual 7950 which is £50 more. You can over clock it and it will get results above 7950 and close to 670gtx,

My XFX 1Gb 7770 can max most games out at 1080p on my TV. It's low powered @ 1 pci-x connector and quiet
