Just going through my collection and I must say, XBLA must have had the best console releases this gen for sure.

Not all originals but some absolute stone cold classics and original exclusives. It's like a little platform all to itself.

That's not even going down the Indie route.

This is just a list of absolutely classic games on XBLA, these are all well worth getting if you have an Xbox and a large majority are worth picking up a cheap second hand console for:

Best platform this gen for me I think. I really hope MS can continue to catch some great exclusive XBLA games.

If someone can be arsed, could they please compile a list of PSN games as I know I've missed some solid classics their, have Journey etc... Maybe some of the more obscure titles or even XBLA games I have left out of the list!

Steam also welcome although that list would not end! :)

If there are any gems I'm missing that I haven't got on XBLA, it would be good to know.

Tokyo Jungle and Unfinished Swan are the only ones that spring to mind?

great list. still haven't played the majority of them yet unfortunatley...my main 'problem' with the xbla/psn games: i cannot help...i wish they would be playable on a portable device. i missed a xbox branded handheld this gen so much. if they will do smart glass right- combine it with xbla...it will be some serious serious shit!

I still think MS will do a Xbox branded 'surface' XBLA tablet with controls at some point. Basically a small handheld 360, would be pretty sweet! :)

I've spent rather a lot of time on XBLA. It started out a little ropey, but has really has turned into a highlight of this gen.

I see it taking more and more attention from retail games next gen.

Give them to me NOW!!! I'd nearly get a 360 just to play these bastards...

XBLA and PSN have been some of the highlights this generation. Real quality and value gaming in both. Couple of extra PSN ones ...

Joe Danger (also came to XBLA)
Mahjong Tales: Ancient Wisdom (usual matching type affair but well presented and told story and good multiplayer fun).

It has done absolute miracles for digital distribution, which could holistically be considered the best 'platform' this gen.

And the winner for Best Platform This Generation goes to......the PC!

Yes, not only are most of those games on that list on the PC, but many, many more great indie titles. Plus loads of F2P MMO's of all varieties.

Of course, you must think, "PC is always ahead of consoles." Yes, but because this gen has lasted well beyond it's years, PC has taken a huge lead that the consoles won't be able to catch up to it. I have been a hardcore consoler since the 80's (Atari 2600). Have also gamed on PC (med/high end)since then as well. I have never seen such a gap between the two.

For years, the PC has been ahead in raw power and upgrades continually, but PC gamers were left with, well....PC games. RPG, FPS, and RTS games reigned supreme for many years, but the consoles got all the attention with cool adventure games and platformers. Then even stealing the show with their own FPS games and open world structures, leaving the PC with shoddy ports.

Two years ago I would have said, "[pick a console] wins this gen." Next gen could have been launched with GTX 500 series comparable machines. Yet the big 3 dropped the ball and let PC get better gamepad support with the 360 controller integrated into many games and viable marketing/delivery tools, such as GOG, Desura, Steam and-dare I say-Origin. Prices are lower, games are plenty, portable across different machines, and ports are better. Easy access to my television from the PC gives me a comfortable, on the couch, consolesque feel with all my full PC apps at my finger tips. Heck, even multiple screen gaming. Had that for years (e.g. Supreme Commander dual screen is awesome). I like talking to my Xbox (Kinect), pointing lasers at my screen (Wii), waving glowing ice cream cones in front of my face (Move), and even going karaoke on my machine (Sing Star); but it wasn't enough.

I started this gen with a PS3, X360, and a Q6600/GTX 8800 rig. All pretty comparable machines really. I shall finish this gen with two PS3's, a X360, a wii, and an i7/660ti rig.

So really, the question remains: With GTX 700/HD8000 series cards just over the horizon, how will the next gen consoles start the next round? Will they already be left in the dust, or will they wow us again? For the Master Race has waited in the shadows for too long. It has begun it's descent upon the console plebs. The GabeBox is coming to bring you all under the Master Race's control.

I think that depends on what your used to. If you are a PC gamers you prolly aren't going to be as impressed as someone that has only played on consoles.

It is like only letting a gamer play on a NES. If they don't know anything else that NES is golden and they love it. And once you show them a SNES they are very impressed. As long as that gamer never gets exposed to anything better they are very happy and content.

But if you are a medium to high end PC gamer, you have prolly already played games that are graphicly on par or better then next gen console games.

Again i think the answer to your question is going to depend on who is asking/answering.
