What's the criteria on having comments moderated in news stories? I'd persume that you would just allow comments by registered members?
Your comment is awaiting moderation.

Quoting others apparently results in that as well. :/

I've done that, quoting others in comments, and it passes.
The only thing for when it doesnt (as far as I know) is putting more then one smiley in the comment and putting in a link.

Hmmm I did include a link but only 1

JC- Well my last comment with quote and no link is awaiting moderation.
Edit: Ah, there are two smilies in it.

You can pretty much guarantee that including a link will do it. The comments monster on the old site was far less sensitive.

I've just looked into this and tried to chill the comment bot out a bit. However, I'm not so sure the comments are actually being held for moderation. If you get it again, please could you just refresh straight away and see if the comment appears?

The "this comment is awaiting moderation" appears at the top of the post. Even after a few refreshes, until someone seems to release it. That's been the case for me anyway.

Yeah, you can always see your own comments. The giveaway is if they don't appear in the 'latest comments' list.
The links thing is worst. Bumming out on double-smilies is actually helping to train me to use fewer smilies. :-D

Fucking weird. Wordpress really is completely wack sometimes.

Uhm, I just posted a comment on the LBP story with a link in it and it appeared instantly in the latest comment box and is viewable, but the comment count for the story stayed the same.

That's because of caching. Basically, the website stores common chunks of itself to serve up repeatedly in order to reduce load on the server and make it quicker. This sometimes has the result of faster-moving data being a little bit slower to update. I'll try and get Mark to update the cache to be a little bit more frequent to make sure it updates quicker.
In any case, I think it's probably an unrelated issue.

Can we have a 'Your comment is retarded' filter?
