Next-Gen: Xbox 720 Will Be More Powerful Than PS4 - Report

I'll take it with a grain of salt. Until final spec sheets are shown then I'll care. The PS3 is suppose to be inferior to the 360 memory and GPU but yet no 360 game looks better than MGS4 and nowhere near games like Uncharted,The Last of Us,or Beyond. And with all that power the suppose nextbox is suppose to be packing I hope their first party games line up increases to more than Forza,Halo, and Fable.
Games will always ultimately determine where people want to play not how many triangles can be pushed per second.

Thanks for the laugh theevilaires

@theevilaires You said it all, I buy consoles to play games, and this gen PS had the most amazing games in my opinion, since I don't dig the style of Wii games and all it's anime japanese stuff, and xbox has gears of wars(generic TPS for me) and Halo(the most boring story of a FPS I've seen, with retard aliens, even Battlefield 3 is better in story). If I still get the good franchises PS offered me this gen, then I will go to PS. But still, the price is going to be the factor, and I always wait to buy consoles, their launch prices in brazil is horrible

@2
Eh....Uncharted and The Last of Us? Oh yes. Beyond? Looks good but not OMFG good. MGS4?!!!!! Serious? I'm sorry but i see very little special about those graphics, in fact i was quite disappointed with the ingame graphics and especially the animations. I'm sure Xbox 360 could easily do MGS4.

"3.2TFlops of data" - Care to explain what that means woe?

Cutscenes, QTE-fests and narrow corridor/fixed camera games are easy places to fool the uninitiated into thinking there’s a lot of processing muscle rendering those scenes.
The likes of GoW, Uncharted, Heavy Rain, etc.. are all extremely limited in scope. I got annoyed at constantly banging into walls, both visible and invisible, while playing these games. You don’t even get an illusion of freedom. It’s wall-to-wall walls!
When PS3 games go with more scope the visuals take a massive hit, as you would expect. The real challenge is in making great looking games with scope, freedom and intelligent enemies.
Witcher 2 and Halo 4 easily match the image quality of any PS3 game (Halo 4 has image quality way, way above anything on PS3), but they manage to do that whilst giving you wide open areas to explore and ancillary systems like RPG mechanics or class-leading AI.
On paper the PS3 has more raw processing grunt. However, due to its memory architecture the way in which that power can be applied is very limited. It’s like putting bicycle tyres on a Ferrari. Lots of grunt, but little grip with which to apply it.
Multiplatform games, of which more than 90% were noticeably better on the 360, are the only logical place to make technical platform comparisons because there you compare like-for-like.
But this is all purely from a technical perspective. Enjoy whatever games float your boat.
As for the next gen, the proof of the pudding will be in the eating. On-paper technical specs have always been irrelevant, and always will be.

@woe thats just two games that came after MGS4 years after....about time since MGS4 is a 2008 game. Woo hoo the xbox360 finally gets 2 exclusives in 2011 and 2012 that out performs a 2008 game...good comparison bro.
@Moonwalker have you played UC3 airplane scene when it crashes in the desert. That shit looks insane and the beginning of God of war 3 with the titans are incredible too. this is all running on the supposedly inferior GPU of the PS3 mind you. Also cutscenes are in game graphics in MGS4. For a 2008 game it still holds up very well 4 years later and to most 360 exclusives.
UC3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlLrehm7z7w
GOW3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzqJswRGc8o
MGS4: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lO2Zp4nwsFA
UC2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIwl8jkyTt4
TLoU: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cVBXXFoWksI'm not even going to blow your mind with the top best like KillZone 3 or Beyond. but you you get the point from a supposedly inferior GPU. ;)

'When' has nothing to do with technical comparisons.

Who cares? As long as the games run fine on the system, I'm good. I hope Sony wont make the same mistake again and give the devs some weird system that they can't handle properly :F

@Gadzooks!: Are you in dev?

^ No hes in denial.

@Gheritt
Yes, but not games development. FM web apps.
Posted 4 months ago # -
Who cares? i will just use my ever superior PC for my gaming needs.....
Posted 4 months ago # -
I'm sorry Woe & Gadzooks but I've got Halo 4, I love Halo 4, but its graphics are rubbish, anyone who champions the sprite wallpaper they call a background is pretty ignorant about how far other games have gone in the graphics department. PS3 exclusives look far better than 'most' X360 ones, the size of the explorable map is irrelevant. Either way they still pale in comparison to PC so can we please stop this graphics debate?
It's over, the winning team is ultimately the one who enjoys the game the most- not how many pixels are being pushed or special effects are being applied. Visuals aren't everything & I think Star Wars shows us that- original trilogy>>>>new trilogy.

Fan Wars, a new hope.
Buy all systems, enjoy all games. Don't let a company narrow your field of view. Unless its Valve. Let Valve take over your hearts and minds. Praise Valve and you will be a better human. Praise the sun!

Digital Foundry is calling you a big fat liar.
They are right too.

If you find Halo 4 graphically impressive, you've clearly not played a decent PC game in the past 5 years.
I haven't played much of KZ3 but from what I remember in contrast to Halo 4, KZ3 is better, but this is from memory, not a direct comparison- I honestly don't really care. I continue to play Halo 4 so I obviously enjoy it more. But the lag- nothing infuriates me more than completing an assassin animation only to die & watch the killcam of the guy I supposedly assassinated shoot next to me a few times & I lay down die.
I think it would have been better for my stress levels if they left the killcam out, it's hard knowing that you should have won an engagement but didn't because of poor local server support. Halo 3 & Reach were better in this respect. Why am I constantly playing with racist Americans? Surely there's enough Aussies who bought it.

I do enjoy a good change of subject in the face of actual evidence.
Most amusing.
Posted 3 months ago # -
What evidence? Halo is a mediocre looking game, get over it. Enjoy it all you want just get yourself outta denial.
Posted 3 months ago # -
@Christopher Jack: Rubbish you say? then why has it been walking away with more best graphic awards than other game last year, so explain that?
Posted 3 months ago # -
I'm not a fan of Halo (or FPSs in general). I've only seen screens and vids of Halo 4 and not played it first-hand.
That said, what I've seen looks extremely impressive. I know there's more power out there in gaming PCs (I do a lot of PC gaming myself) but Halo 4 is no slouch graphically. C'mon.

People are ignorant, bias &/or retarded.
@Joe, it looks better in stills, my main criticism is the backgrounds, they look like wallpaper. They tried to make it look good but it still isn't great. My point was it's not an ugly looking game, some nice artistic elements but it doesn't deserve the appraisal it gets for its graphics.
Posted 3 months ago # -
Take your trolling elsewhere Jack. You very obviously have no idea what you are talking about.
Posted 3 months ago # -
@CJ Your comments remind me of folk being critical of the rendering of the trees in Gran Turismo (another game I've not played). I guess that sort of stuff just isn't a big enough deal for a lot of people.

Again, I don't think it looks bad, the graphics are just heavily overrated, they're good, not great, there are many other console games that look much better- that's really my entire point. Gadzooks! is just insane & loves the franchise so ergo it's automatically better at everything then anything else.
Again, I have the game, like the game, but get a grip people, the graphics aren't as great as it gets credit for.
-Playing it right now on a fHD screen, stand by what I said.

@CJ: "the size of the explorable map is irrelevant."
Er... what? The size of the explorable map determines how much GFX oomph is at your disposal. That's why, traditionally, 1-on-1 fighters have had the best character models and effects, as they've not had to render very much else.
Of course, it hasn't always panned out that way this gen, but that's more to do with quality failings at Namco, Capcom and Tecmo than anything else.

^ this!

Ah, the classic fanboy arguments. Throw around specs and numbers, and pretend that you know something. Always makes me laugh. Anyway, as long as the game works, then it shouldn't matter how powerful or not the machine is.
