I just love the people who want to say the wii was in competition with the 360 and PS3 when...
#1 it wasn't even HD which makes it not even qualified to be in the same class of those two.
#2 90% of the games released for the wii are exclusives because it can't handle the type of games the PS3 and 360 play. Which is why the wii U exist because nobody was playing their original wii and third parties abandoned it.
#3 Please show me anyone who still uses their wii on a daily basis after 6 months of owning it and more than their 360 or PS3.
#4 Whatever happened to those phrases the "wii360" or "PSwii3" basically jokingly referring to the wii as a secondary console for its gimmick motion controls? Oh thats right people got sick of the gimmick and just wanted real games which it couldn't produce...enter Wii U a true competitor in the HD arena.

The Wii U is an awesome console and if Nintendo had released it back in 2006 along side the PS3 and 360 matching graphical and technical quality with their gimmick I would accept Nintendo as #1. Instead they were scared to face the Juggernaut PS3 because how bad the PS2 spanked the gamecube and took the safe financial route because the gamecube was a "FAILURE".
Say what you want you know its true. If its not then why are they doing the same thing with the Wii U. While the wii U remote is not a gimmick I like it. The same can be done using a PS3 and Vita. Nintendo has placed themselves out the loop of the race and have even stated themselves they're not in competition with SONY and Microsoft.
We all knew this day would come eventually. I'm just glad it came before the official announcements of the Next Gen Consoles that will take graphics,A.I.,and gameplay to new levels. Not make a skip hop and a jump like Nintendo did with the wii to wii U. This years E3 is going to be fucking awesome. The Ken Kutaragi Legacy can finally R.I.P. making the PlayStation brand the first console in history to ever win 3 generations in a row.

@tea...i play wii games regulary and they look fantastic via wiiu. i play mario kart, house of the dead coop, i replay a lot of the platformers. there are timeless classics on the wii.
i hate this fanboy nitpicking who won bullshit. this was fun 5 years ago. it has a looooong beard now. ps3, wii, 360 have all been successfull. the rest is just nerdgasm.

this is something we're hearing since the existence of the wii and it still stinks. you are basically saying uncharted is a real game. donkey kong country isnt. halo is a real game. metroid prime isn't. gran turismo is a real game. mario kart isn't...that's just...well...bullshit, no matter how you look at it.

For what it is worth, and wholey expected, I played Wii for long after 6 months. I know a lot of people that did. The system had it share of sholveware, no doubt. But it also had it share of real gems. I played those.

@Poly fortunately I don't. My mind works very much like his as far as humor is concerned. When he starts talking about ridiculous facts I'm usually right there with him in my head, laughing uncontrollably. I would pay for Beyond, it provides that much entertainment for me :)

Poly my original statement still stands. If Nintendo was so sure of their dominance this console gen why not release a console with the graphical power of the PS3 and 360 and not of an original xbox. They could have still did the wii mote thing and all, but the fact of the matter is they we're scared of SONY and Microsoft.
Its sad when the original XBOX outsells or matches a console sales of a competitor who has been in the game for over a decade with their first console ever. I promise you this if the Wii would have failed like many predicted before its launch Nintendo might have gone the way of Sega. The Gamecube got little to no 3rd party support, the wii damn sure didn't have any strong 3rd party support, and I'm "predicting" once the real next gen hits the little 3rd party support the Wii U is getting will dry up too.
Nintendo has officially positioned themselves as the secondary console of choice next to the PlayStation and XBOX. I'm not bashing Nintendo I'm just stating the obvious from what I've heard from everyone else and that is their wii's are in the closet collecting dust and their 360's...oh wait the PS3 has surpassed it so the PS3 comes first ;)....PS3's and 360's are being used everyday.
You want proof? How come there are more Wiis sold but the PS3 is the most used console (or basically machine period) for Netflix? I know why, because people actually use their PS3's for games (UNLIKE THE Wii) and when they finish they use their systems to watch some movies. Unlike the Wii which doesn't get used at all for anything period these days but a paper weight.
I'm not knocking Donkey Kong as not being a real good game. Its cool I like it, yet to play the whole thing but still its a fun cool game. The problem is how many of those cool games have Nintendo released in the past 3 years that make you want to turn on your wii? Like 1 a year? Mario in 2009...Zelda in 2010....Donkey Kong in 2011....Wow thanks Nintendo but SONY releases awesome exclusives every fucking month sometimes 2 to 3 at a time. Google it!
Also saying the Wii had its fair share of shovelware is an understatement and pathetic damage control. We can all go to gamestop and look at the wii selection and 90% of that library on the wall is crap. It had its few gems?....Yea Nintendo first party titles that take hella long to come out while SONY is pumping out top notch exclusive after top notch exclusive. My point is the Wii is the gamecube slim with gimmick motion controls, the online portion of the system wasn't even better than the original XBOX and PS2 more than likely has more online play hours with the socom franchise alone than all the Wii titles put together.
The wii was never meant to be a next gen console it was just Nintendo's next piece of hardware that was too scared to face the power of the PS3 and XBOX 360 and had its little 15 minutes of fame grudge match against the best selling console of all time the mighty PS2 :) the wii wasn't a success for the industry...it was a success for Nintendo to grow their balls back and step up to the current heavy weights finally. Nintendo in my opinion just fucked up because if they had launched the Wii U back in 2006 instead of that Gamecube slim then they'd be number 1 in my book and not sitting on my shelf still in the box never opened.

timing for hd NOW, looking at the mass market, is just right. making a tablet controller NOW is perfect timing too. do you think current gen consoles really needed bluray, justifying that price of the launch ps3?there are countless great games on the wii...not only nintendo exclusives.

let's take a look at me not too long ago: i just bought a wii a year or so ago being on my hardcore online real gamer throne before, saying nintendo finally lost it for me, they sold their souls to the so called casuals. thats not me. i am hardcore. i was just an idiot...i was wrong, that's all i can say. it has some damn good games. some are among the very best this gen had to offer.
you are saying nintendo didn't make enough games...so many others say they are milking their franchises, sigh...i for one think they pace all that perfectly. a nintendo discussion with the self crowned hc crowd you just cannot win though. it's like og said. people seem to be afraid of instantly turning into kids when liking anything nintendo. poor twens. and killersense...i might be wrong, because i really do not care much about these things but i think the ds just recently outsold the ps2... (which i owned and liked btw, just like the gamecube)
