All 10/10 games for me:

1. Borderlands 2;
2. XCOM: Enemy Unknown;
3. Dishonored;
4. Far Cry 3;
5. Okami HD.

Honorable mention goes to Darksiders II which should be number 5, but was nudged out by a remaster of a timeless classic. Also wish Amazon had been able to ship me my Walking Dead game on time. It probably has a place on this list here somewhere... Fez too probably, if I had a 360. :(

So how about you guys. I'd be really interested to see what the games that dominated your 2012 were...

That was a voting page to see what the collective VG24/7 top 3 were. This is individual personal top 5 for each forumite to try and...

Top five looked like this:

1. Mass Effect 3
2. XCOM: Enemy Unknown
3. Rift: Storm Legion (Expansion)
4. Far Cry 3
5. Borderlands 2

Games that just missed out:

1. Darksiders 2
2. Sleeping Dogs
3. War of the Roses

The only real disappointment of 2012 game wise would be Guild Wars 2.

I suppose this can be much more of a discussion thread. :)

I had missed out on a lot of 2012 titles as I caught up on 2011 stuff. I have picked up/played a couple of late contenders since voting in the other thread though.

So my list was ...

1. Minecraft (XBLA)
2. LBP (Vita)
3. Trials Evolution (XBLA)

Recently played and loved ... in no particular order.

(*) 1. Journey (PSN) - fantastic exploration of where games can go and what they can do.
(*) 2. The Unfinished Swan (PSN) - fantastically realised game with a great story and great puzzles / mechanics.
3. Dishonored (360) - I loved the early Thief games and this seems like a great spiritual successor to those. Only a little way in but loving the action, the story, the art direction and the atmosphere.

(*) My views on these two probably helped by the fact I got them in the double pack for £10 over Christmas. Length wise I have no issue with either at £5 each.

I felt there were a few decent titles this past year. However nothing mindblowing, most of it forgetable. I had a lot of fun with Torchlight II and Guild Wars II, and a handful of unique indie games. AssCred III was cool. But most of the games were overhyped sequels peddling the same worn out gameplay, settings, stories, etc.

The most exciting thing that happened to me gamewise, was WiiU. It was a breath of frsh air. But still alot of what I own for it and enjoy for it are just sequels of long running franchises that are also out on other systems.

I am hoping the new year brings NEW games, kind of doubt it tho. Thank god for Steam and the Indies.

I don't think I care to remember more than those. Krater was beautiful and Far Cry 3 had some awesome moments, but both were still short of greatness.

For me the top 5 games of 2012 were:
1. The Walking Dead
2. Tales of Graces F
3. Okami HD
4. Final Fantasy XIII-2
5. Lollipop Chainsaw

2012 game that I really want to play but just haven't gotten a chance to: Borderlands 2

2012 game that didn't disappoint me as much as it disappointed everyone else: RE6. With the exception of Chris' campaign, which is absolute torture to go through, I actually liked RE6 quite a bit, especially Leon's campaign, which I think nicely mixed the gameplay of RE4 with the atmosphere of RE1-CV. Jake's campaign was bearable once you realized it wasn't horror, but a strangely Metal Gear-esque tale. But Chris' campaign is just utter RE5-quality shit.

Disappointment of the year: Mass Effect 3...and not just because of the original ending. I didn't like that all of the ME2 characters were pretty much just afterthoughts. I mean, at the very least, couldn't Grunt have joined my party? He wasn't doing anything important throughout ME3. Then there were things like Anderson no longer being in charge of the council, no matter what you had previously decided, and me being on the outs with the Illusive Man, despite being on pretty much the same page as him at the end of ME2. I felt like too many things that happened throughout the series had no effect in ME3 and they ditched all the best characters (the ME2 ones) to appeal to ME1 fans. Not to mention, why are the only two new characters either 1) DLC or 2) big stupid meatheads.

2011 game I still haven't played that I will eventually: Uncharted 3

2011 game that I'm enjoying a great deal, having just bought it at the end of 2012: Dark Souls

Top 5 games I'm most anticipating for 2013: Metal Gear Rising, Ni No Kuni, Tales of Xillia, Beyond: Two Souls, and The Last of Us....provided, of course, that Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Last Guardian don't make 2013, which I would almost be willing to bet they won't, at least, in the West.

i still havent touched dishonored yet. lies here unopened. not enough time. havent played borderlands 2 yet and just started darksiders II...2012 was ok but not really great...then came the wiiu...pheew. here are my honest 5:

-journey: touched me. relaxed me. made me sad. beautiful little game.
-halo 4: i am soooo disappointed by it. still an awesome game.
-sonic all star racing transformed: yep-seriously, seeing tails freaking out in his kart after a shit race never gets old
-mutant mudds: it's unforgiving, it's charming, it's old school, it's fresh, it's portable.
-nsmbu: most fun coop in a good while. will probably be the first game in history that i will finish from the start to the last boss together with my beloved girl. so this is a no brainer contender for this list.

this year i couldn't really find much fun in playing the story oriented aaa heavy hitters. actually, the ones i played bored me to death. speaking of death, i am halfway through darksiders and i feel like i might not even finish it. it's a good game, i love the artdesign but somehow i am still not feeling it. happened with a lot of games this year. don't know why but it's true. that's probably why my list is more focused on gameplay heavy games.

@polygem: Man, for me Dishonored is the closest thing I've had to Deus Ex since... Deus Ex. Even a little more so than Human Revolution. You should seriously give that game a shot. The first level is a little linear, and boring as you haven't gotten your powers yet, but later on, there are soooooo many ways to beat it.

And Borderlands 2 is the funniest game I have EVER played. Full stop. Give 'em a chance man.

* I had to give it the joint-decision between Dishonored and Hotline Miami. Both games were immaculate and had absolutely nothing between them in terms of fun factor.

@TG: i will play them. i already have a copy of dishonored lying around and planned to play it these holidays but was too occupied with the wiiu. i have a lot of started/ unfinished games atm. it's almost stressing me;)
will play borderlands 2 as well at some point. really enjoyed the first one.
