Hey everyone,
This page is made so that we, VG247 community can have our own awards for the best games of the year. So I hope you can participate as your votes will decide the winner.

Now time for some stupid rules (No one likes them, but please read them)-
1.3 games will be awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively. 2.Therefore please select 3 games which according to you are the best this year. Mention them in order of 1st,2nd and 3rd. 1st place nominees will receive three points, 2nd place 2 points and 3rd place 1 point respectively.
3.GOTY editions and straight up collections (like ME collection)are not allowed, remakes (like Okami HD) and "enhanced versions" (like AC Armored Edition) are allowed.
4.Users are requested to provide reasons for their nominees,it may help them getting more users to support their nominees, but its NOT MANDATORY. 3 best quotes will be announced at the time of results.
5.Winners will be decided based on final points tally, sometime in January 2013. Voting will close on 1st January 2013, 00:00 GMT.
6.Only ONE post per user is allowed.

P.S.-Thanks to Ireland Michael for taking up the responsibility of counting votes (A truly boring job, my heart goes out to him :P) and also for helping with the planning and Sam, Dave, ManuOtaku, Deacon, mathare92 and specially The_Red for encouraging the initiative and their kind words. I hope people support this.

1.Journey (PS3)
Reason- Represents a pinnacle of game design. The game offers a deep, personal experience and the concept of nameless travelers, all same with no caste, creed, religion (or even no perks, load-outs etc.) separating one from the other, helping each other without knowing anything about each other truly shines, representing how an ideal world should be.

2.Gravity Rush (PS Vita)
Reason- Best cel-shaded game this year (JSR comes second). The world is truly breathtaking and comic book style cut scenes just work perfectly, matching the art style of the game. Also playing with gravity never get old.

3.Walking Dead Episodic Series (Multiple Platforms)
Reason- Proves an awesome story is enough to make a good game. As a fan of Japanese Visual Novels, I am happy such games are finally getting recognition in the west. Also proves QTEs are not always bad, with its clever implementation in the game while making choices.

1.-Xenoblade
For me the best JRPG this generation, and the best RPG overall too, it has it all, the story, the settings the world is great, the fighting mechanics are very deep,the graphics with the composite cable did got the job done, really a masterpiece, coming only second to chrono trigger for my best RPG of all time.

2.-Dragon Dogma
for me this one did had what dragon age or skyrim lack, i cannot pinpoint exactly what it is, but i think it is for the figthing mechanics, the neat pawn systems and the mitology around the story, world, and beasts, really one of my favorites news ip this gen

3.-darksiders II:
It is the amalgamation of a lot of genres, and games, and an overall improvement upon the first one which was really good, now the also added a loot system, to really seal the deal, the reason it came on 3 is for the camera, it is too floaty for my tastes, but iam having a blast with this game, really the settings, the design of the characters, the bosses fights , the mix of all the great games (zelda, torchlight, god of war, prince of persia, etc), did made it one heck of a package, and the world is just enormous.

Hmmm...the three top games of 2012 for me, so far are...

1. The Walking Dead Episodic Series (multiplatform) - The most depressing platinum I've ever earned. In fact, the only platinum I've ever felt depressed while earning. Very emotional experience.

2. Tales of Graces F (PS3) - a very solid, completely underrated JRPG experience that deserves more attention than it got

3. Okami HD (PS3) - one of my favorite PS2 games improved and prettier than ever

And so it begins!
First of all, thank you for the nod. I don't think I've done anything to help but again, thanks for your time and kindness.

1- Spelunky
It's the ultimate combination of a cute 2D platformer with a brutal rogue-like. The design is simply fantastic and the items, shopkeepers, random levels and their events make it infinitely replayable. Plus, the XBLA actually improves upon the original and gives a true sense of progression / story by additional of the Hell as the secret last chapter. In short, it's Demon's / Dark Souls: The Platformer.

2- Binary Domain
What the hell!? I don't know but the shooting in this game was really satisfying (with the robot parts flying everywhere and body part removal system). The set pieces were really great even if not as big budget as Uncharted 2. Of course, it was the story that won me over. One of the best modern game stories along with some really great characters.

3- Dishonored.
It didn't come together as awesomely as I would have hoped but the feeling of old Thief games is more than welcome. Also, there are bits from Deus Ex, HL2, Arx Fatalis and even Messiah, all of which I LOVED. Finally, the idea of giving so many crazy powers to the player and not worrying TOO much about balance and other crap is really REALLY great.

-Honorable mentions (Not for voting, just games that I really loved):
Sleeping Dogs, Incredipede, Asura's Wrath, Tiny & Big, Dragon's Dogma, LEGO Batman 2

-Promising games that I sadly didn't get to play:
The Walking Dead, Hotline Miami, Journey, FTL, Tokyo Jungle, Far Cry 3, Mark of the Ninja, Xenoblade

1. The Walking Dead Game- When I first saw this I thought it was going to be a piece of crap but then I bought it on impulse and I haven't looked back. One of the best story focused games I've ever played.

2. Dishonored- It's nice to get a great new IP and Dishonored was exactly that, a really immersive stealth action game.

3. Mass Effect 3- I cared more about the journey than the ending and I thought it was one hell of a journey to end Shepard's story.

-Promising games that I sadly didn't get to play:
Max Payne 3 (should be getting that soon), XCOM (should be getting that soon), ZombiU, Far Cry 3 and Sleeping Dogs (should be getting that soon)

1) Halo 4

Halo 4 raised the bar impossibly high on console visuals while keeping the signature scope, variety and unmatched enemy AI that Halo campaigns are famous for.

The amount of content in the box is massive too, with a huge number of multiplayer modes in constantly updated playlists and Spartan ops providing both time attack mode and a whole extra parallel campaign.

It's simply the ultimate console shooter.

2) Trials Evolution

With superbly realistic physics and a gorgeous game engine, this is the ultimate 'one more go' score/time attack skill-based game. It's also a stupidly full package, with tonnes of content in the box, multiplayer modes and an almost infinite amount of levels and game types available from the Trials community through the flexible level/game editor.

Pure oldskool gameplay in a thoroughly modern package.

3) Minecraft XBLA

Imagine it then build it, explore beautiful procedurally generated landscapes and cavern systems, survive monster attacks or simply wander around your friends worlds 'accidentally' getting creepers to follow you so they blow up the creations your friends have spent countless hours building.

As chilled or frantic as you want it to be. Never before has a game offered so much freedom with so few rules and produced such compelling gameplay or amazing vistas.

So many good games this year but those 3 are the ones I probably enjoyed for the most and still go back and play.

1)Dishonored - no other game gives you this much freedom in how to approach your objectives,visually it was like playing inside of a painting(if that makes any sense)
2)Borderlands 2 - "guns,glorious guns"
3)Alan Wake(it came for PC this year) - the creepy atmosphere,intriguing story...can't wait for a sequel.

Kudos to Mr. Dragon for getting this going.

Been a rotten year from my perspective, gamewise.

My picks:

Torchlight II

Run and gun gameplay. Imaginitive skills, baddies, settings, etc. Very colorful graghics. Great multiplayer. Nice variety within the classes. Love the buy a random map(opens a stage complete with bosses to plow through). Best ARPG I have played scence TQ:IT. So my top game of the year is without a doubt Torchlight II, I am hoping for a WiiU or XBNXT console port in the future.

Guild Wars II

What can I say about this one? All around solid game that will just continue to get better. I love not having a sub hanging over my head, I can play as much or as little as I want. I never feel obligated to log in. But when I do log in, I find a vast and open world, a great quest system, solid crafting, and excelent PVP. This game rewards you for exploring, I like that. This is a fantastic game.

Say what you want about the system, this game is rock solid, albeit harder then hell. I don't own the game yet, but I have put some time on it at a friends house. It is on my xmass list for sure. My friend loves it too. No one I have talked to doesn't like the game. Maybe I am just over excited to finish the game myself, or maybe it is just a light year for games, but ZombieU is my thrid choice.

There you have it. My top 3.

Some games that were close for me, Diablo III, AssCred III, NintendoLand, Hell Yeah, Sonic Racing Transformed, Xenoblade, Darksiders II, Heros of Ruin, NSMBWiiU.

great idea...feel like i cannot really join because this year there wasn´t really that much i felt like i wanted to play - unfortunateley. still haven´t touched borderlands 2 and dishonored yet, though. i will definitley play them and already have a copy of dishonored lying around. loving the idea of the community awards though dragon. next year i will be better prepared (i hope). this year it will be:

1. journey
loved this relaxing little great game

2. halo4
man am i disappointed with it...still an awesome game

3. mutant mudds
old school, hard, feel good, on the go

like i said, feels a bit unfair, while not interested much in the likes of mass effect and max payne i feel like dishonored, darksiders 2 or borderlands 2 could have easily made it in my list...just haven´t found time for them yet ;(

my list is awesome anyway! it counts.

1) Dishonored - Awesome, beautiful, refreshing, great story, engaging characters, just long enough, replayability
2) Journey - moving, unique fresh
3) Diablo 3 - launch issues aside, shear scale and ability combinations, combat satisfaction and seemless drop in co-op

1. Dark Souls : Prepare to Die

Best game of last year becomes best game of this year. Not even a shoddy port can hinder this game. Challenge, reward, exploration, atmosphere and player impact. One of the greatest games ever made. Now moddable. Lovely.

2. uhhhhh Tokyo Jungle I guess?

3. Fuck. Oh Fuck it Black Mesa.

1. Dishonored - This game has it all, style, freedom, surprises, fun gameplay and an interesting story. Must have game for anyone out there.

2. XCOM: Enemy Unknown - Man, what an awesome tactical turn-based strategy game. If you like micro-managing your bases resources, tweaking your dudes, planning out and executing strategies and saving the planet then good news friend, this is the game for you.

3. Okami HD - One of the greatest games ever made. Graphically stunning, culturally rich, deep and incredibly novel mechanics, long and full of shit to do, and fantastic NPCs. Basically there isn't anything negative I can say about this game, it's fucking awesome cakes! In my heart, this is number 1, but it had its time, so I knocked it down to 3.

I think it's worth mentioning that if you're going to be getting Far Cry 3 soon, you might want to delay your vote until you've played it. Reviews have been very positive so far.

That's true! But I think a game like that takes quite a bit of time to get into the guts of and finish, especially now that Christmas is soon upon us, and I am still soldiering through a raft of games... It might end up on next year's list unless it grabs my nutsack straight off the bat...

1) Torchlight 2 - Great ARPG, it's Torchlight taken to another level. 4 great distinct classes which can be built in a variety of ways and essentially infinite playability.

2) Borderlands 2 - Even if Lilith was a better Siren than Maya, great successor to the original. Took almost every crit from Borderlands 1 and knocked it out of the park. I was pretty shocked to see how much time I've actually put in since release.

3) Planetside 2 - Most epic large scale multiplayer game to date. The features and mechanics in Planetside 2 make Battlefield 3 look like dog shit in comparison. Sure it's having its teething problems but I expect PS2 to have a great 2013 once the bugs are ironed out and the games population gets a handle on how to play.

Honourable mention to Krater. Not the most successfully launched product of all time, but I'd say they've taken a good run at turning it into a good game, and the music in the game is actually some of the best I've ever heard.

Disappointment of the year: BF3 Armoured Kill. Some of the best BF design I've seen so far mixed in with some of the worst along with some truly astoundingly bad decision making by Dice.

Sadly, I haven't yet played a single game released in 2012, & I don't expect to before the end of the year, so I won't be able to vote.

However, judging by this ever-growing list, I have a LOT to look forward too.

This may prove a useful resource for picking up games, in future.

I'm getting Far Cry 3 on PC but I'm worried it's by Ubisoft and they also made my disappointment of the year - Assassin's Creed 3, man that was poorly designed and dull I hope FC3 is better, at least the characters seem to have an ounce of intrigue.

Ugh, I'm too close to my fave game of the year and would get called out by the powers-that-be if I voted for it, so...

1. Halo 4
2. Mass Effect 3
3. Spec Ops: The Line

I've not played Dishonored (yet) or Borderlands 2 (probs ever, too long) and it *pains* me to not put in Assassin's Creed 3... but there you go.

1. Dark Souls
It just keeps pulling me back in. I've completed it already, but the challenge it provides is just unlike any other game out there right now (Demon's aside). We NEED more games like this that don't hold your hand and give you everything on a plate.

2. Journey
Just one of those magical little titles that stay with you for a long time after playing. Would've been great if there was a bit more meat on the bones, but regardless, I played this every night for a week when I got it. Enchanting stuff.

3. Gravity Rush
One of those games where everything just fits perfectly. From the sublime soundtrack to the gorgeous storyboard cut-scenes. Full of charm and polish and a fantastic showcase for the Vita.

Hey Dragon, throw me your PSN ID. Seems we're into the same sort of games ;)

...and while you´re at it, can´t we just call it: "VG247 Community GOTY 2012 AWARDS" or something like that.... i mean this really is "fucking amazing" and all...but less can be more sometimes.
