According to quite a few sources and most people who've played it's predecessors, Persona 4 Golden is the Vita's killer app and it's greatest RPG yet. What I want to know is what this game will be like to westerners like myself who've either never played JRPG's, or very few of them.
Now I've played many RPG's over the years and it has become one of my favourite genres, but JRPG's are something I've rarely dabbled in. The reason behind this is that the whole anime-quirky-Japanese thing kind of turns me off. If that's the only thing standing between me and my new favourite time consumer though, I want to learn how to get past this barrier and see the prize that lies beyond. I'll probably buy it anyways when I get a Vita (soon) but do any of you guys feel this way (not just about Persona, but just Japanese/foreign games in general)?
I guess the issue really extends to the point where you just have to learn to accept other cultures but we all know how hard that can be.

On another note, this would be the first game in the series that I'd play, so is that fine? Or is there any underlying plot or details that I'd be missing out on? Thanks all.
