Are you able to change the settings so it doesn't open by itself? I know that would help.
EDIT: Don't worry Dave I still love you <3 :p and I didn't mean it in the way that you were intentionally saying bs but rather that it turned out to be bs haha, if you get what I mean.

The only problem I have with the adverts is when I was looking at a picture recently, this happened.

Possible to make sure it doesn't overlap everything else? z-index or what not?

My only problem with the new ads was the ones in between paragraphs. I can stomach the ones at the bottom of the article & the background advertisements have normally been quite tasteful bar the few that autoplay videos at full audio- which if I go onto my mother's computer & forget to change audio settings, can be quite deafening.
