   My current laptop is a Sony Vaio

   CPU : Intel Core I3 , M 330 @ 2.13GHz
   CPU Clock Frequency : 2.13 Ghz
   System memory : 4GB
   ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 , 512MB
   Windows 7 , 64 bit.

   I'm looking for a more smaller, more compact and more mobile machine. It's gonna be mostly for :

   - Browsing the internet, reading gamenews and such.
   - Streaming movies & shows, Youtube.
   - Writing articles for our own gamesite.
   - I'm expecting it to be very handy at game-events, while watching presentations and writing articles of it in the meantime.

   - When i go on trips by train.
   - All the other things like, putting music on my Ipod, using file explorer to organize files and what not.

   Looking at the Microsoft Surface because it's a nice size, only 5 inches smaller screen than what i got now, which is fine for me. Plus i really dig that detachable keyboard. However, it's going to cost 600 dollars. And i wonder if there are other alternatives. I got a big laptop now and since i'm looking for something smaller, is an Ultrabook a good alternative as well? If so..what Ultrabooks should i be looking at? It doesn't nessecarily need to be more powerful than what i have now. I don't care about games requiring powerful specs.

   As for the Surface, apparently it uses Windows RT and i hear alot of negativity on it, but why? If i can do all the things i mentioned on it, i'm good with it. Or am i?

   I can't seem to edit my post. I forgot to add something...i'm not a big 'know-it all' when it comes to these things. Someone told me that my current laptop is more powerful than the Surface, how much more powerful are we talking?

   Different architectures, but a Core i3 is many times more powerful than any ARM chip. The quad core Snapdragon S4 & the Adreno 320 (I believe that's its respective CPU & GPU) is about as powerful as the iPhone 5 & PS Vita. But again, these are different architectures so they behave different than typical x86 ones would, for example- despite being a much weaker chip, they handle 1080p video streaming much easier than a very weak Intel or AMD chip. Expect it to behave more like a large Windows Phone rather than a true Windows tablet, if money is no issue & you'd rather a true PC experience, I'd wait for the Windows 8 x86 tablets rather than any ARM based one.

   MS will have an x86 true Surface tablet coming early next year.

   You are talking about the Surface Pro, right? Well i'm in no hurry to get one, neither do i have the money. But sometime next year i'm planning on replacing my laptop. I'm just alittle concerned about Windows 8, a friend of mine says he hates it and i do hear alot of negativity on it in general too. But i wonder why, is it the new and very different look? Under that new look, it's all very the same as Windows 7, isn't it? Ah well, as long as i can do everything that this laptop does, all the things i mentioned...i should be fine.

   In what ways would i really notice the Surface RT being alot slower than my current laptop?
