Bit of a shit interview at the end. She should have just said "yes you're right, and Cross Play has really boosted the sales of the PS Vita, right?"
Two completely different things. You can buy a WiiU for not much more than the price of a Vita, you're still missing the PS3 at that point.
Stupid comparison in my opinion.

Well quite, the more troubling thing is why isn't the Nintendo MD in the UK able to answer those sort of questions more easily? This is the crux of the problem the WiiU has - how to communicate what it is and what it does differently. I get what it is and what it does, I have my pre-order(s) in, but the UK MD should be able to field those sort of questions with ease. The fact she can't speaks volumes.Posted 7 months ago # -

It was the concept that he was attacking, more than the quality or value. Wii was a revolutionary concept, so I think his attitude is representative of a lot of casuals, who will want another revolutionary step forward.
The fact that this particular concept has been used by Sony for a while now will make people look for more detailed reasons as to why they should part with their money, like the guy did.
As DD said, the fact that even such a senior Nintendo representative couldn't find any real USPs to throw back at the guy shows what a hard job they've got this time around.

@DrD & G1GA, I agree. As a Marketing and PR Director, at a games conference and willing to do interviews - especially high profile ones with the likes the BBC - she should have gone into that with a much better idea of what he would be asking.
Even if it meant vetting the questions before going on camera, she didn't "sell" the console very well. Besides, he's purely gone there to play down the WiiU and you can tell by the questions he asked.
@G1GA, Again, I would agree that the WiiU will have a much harder time of it than the Wii did. But I still think that the package as a whole - WiiU and gamepad - is what sets it apart. It may not be completely innovative but it certainly offers "new" features that no other console can out of the box.

This is what happens when you hire the best qualified business person for the job instead of the best qualified business person who is also a gaming geek.
Randy Pitchford would have had all the answers and been enthusiastic throughout. Comparisons between the Vita and the Wii-U controller are tenuous at best and a good journalist should have known that, and a proper Nintendo geek would have been able to put his analysis in the shitter where it belonged.
I do believe Nintendo are once again shooting themselves in the cock by trying to sell on concept again rather than on actual proof of concept.
Remember the original pre-release Wii promos? It showed people from a frontal perspective playing games (that didn't exist) of various genres specifically I'm thinking of shooters and sword fighting games which made a lot of us jizz in our pants over the possibilities - games that played like that are still to this day almost non-existent on the system, and the ones that exist don't really work very well. Once again Nintendo are selling us the notion of what their hardware can do, but providing very little supporting evidence.
