I'm getting it for PC due to the PS3 showing its age. My Steam account name is themadjock. add me to your steam account if you want a tenuous link to an online friend. I only have one real world friend that is getting it so I need more.

Has anyone played the co-op? How does it handle characters of different levels playing together this time round?
If it's the same as last time where the enemies all scale to the hosts level then I'm gonna need a co-op character and a solo character methinks, but if it evens things out for everybody then I'll work on 1 at a time.
Also, who y'all planning on taking 1st? It would be kind of lame if we're all running the same 1 or 2 chars.

^ Going off reviews it scales to the hosts level, but the game tells you if a game is good for you or not.

I was hoping they'd do similar to what you got in Gears of War 2 co-op, one guy could play casual and his shots would do casual (higher) damage and he'd take casual (lower) damage while the other guy can play on Nightmare (or whatever the top difficulty was called) and his shots would do reduced damage and he'd take increased damage.
I guess Borderlands is a bit more complicated because of the RPG numbers game behind the scenes.
I don't mind managing 2 characters concurrently, it's just a bit poo that jumping into co-op is a bit less smooth than it otherwise could have been.

Got my key today, but thanks to the game using Steam i can't activate it, because it sees it as invalid. Apparently this is a pretty common problem with the game o.O
Posted 8 months ago # -
Got it working. Evidently one just have to keep on spamming the cd-key until Steam realizes that it is valid x)

If you haven't already unlocked it, I'd highly recommend staying up for it tonight. It's seriously fucking brilliant.
Easily the best one for me so far this year.

I managed to unlock it, and i am currently playing as Zer0. So far it is pretty great, claptrap is as awesome as ever ^^
Posted 8 months ago # -
I think he's 10 times better actually. The same goes for the supporting characters. You can really tell they got a writer on it this time.
I'm just slowly chuckling my way through the game :P

Honestly, i've been laughing my ass off on Teamspeak whenever Claptrap speaks. I just love that little assassin xD

I'm waiting for my retail copy to arrive.. it isn't looking good. Thanks, GAME, can't imagine why you nearly went bust.

It's here.. and it's HUUUGE!

I've played some, it's about what I expected.
Decided on Maya as 1st character, keeping it in the Siren vein, but different enough from Lilith for it not to be too samey. Phase Lock isn't that useful at the start, but I reckon once it has some elemental damage it'll be a beast - it is kind of useful for neutralising bigger fuckers while you take out the trash around him though.
AI is definitely better, I've actually been killed a couple of times and have been low on health more than a few times, so the difficulty is quite good - probably need to adjust my tactics, too used to my near god-like Lilith from BL1.
Out of interest, everyone who has played, in the starting area prior to taking the boat yo Sanctuary, did you find that Pistols were a ridiculously high drop rate? Seriously I had like 90%+ Pistol drop rate, even in containers. Slightly annoying because all my best weapons were pistols and thus I was constantly draining the pistol ammo pool while I had maxed out everything else, but had very few weapons worth using for other ammo types. The pre-order bonus weapons didn't last me long, I think I had them all sold pretty damned quick.

Loving it so far. It's already more engaging than the first game and Claptrap has had some amazing lines.
I feel totally stupid for listening to him at one point in the starting area... The game got me fair and square, and I love it for that.

It's much better than I expected. I figured it would just be a more polished version of the original, but they've pretty much just nailed it. It's spot on.
The only thing that needs changing is the fact that ammo from containers doesn't auto pick-up.

I just got a beta key for HotS. Come on! I don't have time to play both BL2 and HotS xD

Looks like everybody's playing it on the Steam :P
Updated impressions anyone?
I've got something like 10 hours played, and I've run into a few annoying things.
One is zone recycling. Doing a quest somewhere and then getting sent back is for the birds. It's just a cheap way of making the game last longer, and having meta-bosses respawn is a pain.
The vehicle combat isn't updated in any significant way, and it really feels a lot more bare bones now that everything else is improved.
And finally I don't love the timing of the combat sometimes. With elemental weapons you may die after you kill an enemy, and I'm not sure that should happen. It feels cheap.
The same thing happens with the ever-present barrels. I guess I should just be shooting all of them, but there are so many, and you never know if one is about to blow right next to you.
It just feels like the game is going "Gotcha" and at least for me, that's never a good feeling. I don't mind being defeated, but I do mind being cheesed.
Still, not nearly enough to ruin the enjoyment of the game.
Anyone else obsessed with the slot machines? If I can't find any weapons to buy, or I just have a lot of cash, I spend it all on those suckers.
Gotten a few great weapons like that. Also, Marcus skin for your character ;)

^I spent over 6.000$ within a few moments on those slot machines :(

@DSB, I don't mind revisiting areas, But there was one quest, the one with the Firehawk cult where you have to take the Midget all the way back to the starting area through hoards of low level chaff, the time vs experience/loot earned really made that part drag and I thought it was a bad call, they should have beefed up the enemies and loot to at least make the back-track worth my while.
Vehicle combat is lame, yes, and so far stupidly easy, with the machine gun variant you can hold down both mouse buttons and rape the shit out of anything.
I too have been stung on occasion by killing off the last guy in the area only to have burn damage end me, that was frustrating. The explosive barrels only pissed me off on one particular mission where there were loads of them about in a narrow corridor and the bastard mini-boss liked to hurl grenades (which can be hard to see).
Slot machines are addictive, but so far not gotten anything worthwhile out of them.

Wow, almost 120k concurrency. Most played game on Steam by a huge margin.
Great for Gearbox.
Posted 7 months ago # -
@DSB Skyrim had around 200k at its launch. Still, good going for Gearbox.
Posted 7 months ago # -
Oh I know, but Skyrim is huge and more established. I think it's safe to say that this is the biggest hit for Gearbox yet though.
Torchlight II seems to be a certified hit as well.

Did you ever doubt either of those games? Guns with laughs, and a lootfest done by the creators of the first 2 Diablo games, hot on the heels on the supposed failure of D3?
Posted 7 months ago # -
I don't know if I doubted them, but I didn't expect that.
Borderlands is an acquired taste, or at least it used to be. And personally I don't see the appeal in Torchlight 2.
I know it got a lot of hype, not least based on Diablo 3, but I thought the beta was kinda shoddy. I just tried the demo yesterday, and I still think it feels shoddy. If I'm going to spend a million clicks killing thousands of mobs, it needs to be more than just a shallow routine.
And then there's the fact that Torchlight 2 hit shortly before Borderlands 2, XCOM, and Dishonored. That's where I'll be putting my money.

There really are a lot of ways to trip yourself up.
A rocket launcher from Tediore is practically a deathtrap. I gotta say I kinda like that, it makes me feel like I'm entirely too inept to be running around with rocket launchers, which is every bit as true in real life.
Elemental shields are pretty unbalanced when you're playing as Zero though. I have no idea whether a guy is going to blast me when I burn down his shield, and I'm relying pretty heavily on my melee, so it's really a problem when I'm facing a lot of enemies, and taking down a shield actually means I lose my own.
Certainly makes the circle of slaughter a bit of a pain at times.
