You could easily get something that was playable and enjoyable working.
Blizzard had even got something working with a 360 pad so it's totally possible with a bit of tweaking.
Now, the experience wouldn't be identical to the PC, same as pad controlled FPS over Mouse and Keyboard, but it would still be fine for people who didn't want to or have access to playing on the PC.
People said the same thing about FPS's when they started coming out on consoles, and it's still the same idiots complaining about them and idea's like this now...
Considering PC's can emulate pretty much any console given time, it's pretty rich when PC gamers complain and bitch about games being converted or dumbed down...

Well to me it would seem you could get pretty close to the PC experience by using the touch screen as an alternative for aiming and definable hotkeys. Hell it would be better on Wii U wouldn't it Erth? :)
@DrDamn Well it really depends on Blizzard if the want to use the Wii U touch pad as primary control interface. What OG proposed was the more flexible way to play D3 on consoles in general. But there are certain changes to gameplay mechanics that needs to be implemented. Gosh it's hard to explain for me :P, for instance the abilities that need aiming/direction, if you play Dead Nation right analogue stick is for aiming for direction. In a top-down shooter it works, in an Isometric type like Diablo 3 it might provide certain challenges to make it work right.
On a touch panel, if you are to use the entire touch panel as a control interface, there will also be challenges to overcome. like you have to tap on enemies for primary attacking ability, but what about other abilities that require real-time precision? As I said it's not the question of it being impossible, because it's entirely possible. But how they should approach it, do they need 2 very different control interfaces and mechanics for consoles while they can just come up with one way that works on all of them. You see, there are many factors to consider.

I'd say a combo of left hand on stick/left shoulder buttons and right hand on pad and buttons or even just pad. If the right hand is just pad then the option of using the stylus instead of your finger/thumb becomes available. Which should provide "real-time precision".
